In the right hands
Dr. Liav Yaakov Yoeli, a hand surgery specialist, joined the General Clinics in the Haifa and Western Galilee District
Dr. Yoeli (41), a hand surgery specialist and senior physician in the orthopedics department at Carmel Medical Center, has joined Clalit Community Clinic and will receive patients at Clalit Emek Hashalom Consultant and Clalit Brachisim clinics.
"We are not aware of how dependent we are on our hands until we lose their function," says Dr. Yoeli. "The hands are our main tool for communication, work, and even expressing love. Seeing a patient return to full function is what motivates me every morning."
Dr. Yoeli completed his medical studies in Hungary and did his internship and residency at Carmel Hospital, part of the Clalit Group, and at Rambam Hospital. He completed his advanced residency in hand surgery at Rambam, and is currently the head of orthopedic trauma at Carmel Hospital.
Between treatment and surgery, Dr. Yoeli returns to his home in Yokneam, where he raises four children with his wife. "Balancing work and family is challenging," he admits with a smile, "but it also reminds me why my profession is so important – enabling people to live full lives."
"Although there is no substitute for a healthy hand," emphasizes Dr. Yoeli, "but new technologies allow us to achieve amazing results even in complex cases. A patient who thought he would never hold a cup of coffee in his hand again suddenly discovers that he can – it's a moment you never tire of seeing."
Good luck to Liav.
