City Center • The Dick Family's All-In-One Incarnation

The City Center building is located in the northern part of the German colony, at the intersection of Ben Gurion Boulevard and Jaffa Streets and its address is 6 Ben Gurion Boulevard. Dick's Department Store According to the 1882 map of the German colony, on the lot on which the City Center building was built, the large trading house of the Templar family Abram Duck was located. The Dick family was one of the wealthiest in the German colony and their residence - at 8 Ben Gurion Boulevard - was one of the largest and most luxurious in the colony. Later, their sons, who continued the family tradition, were among the largest merchants in Haifa. The family ran a kind of department store that sold a variety of products, from everyday products to agricultural machinery. Among its regular customers were also Jewish settlers from the northern colonies. Agronomist Aaron Aaronson from Zichron Yaakov worked for a time as an agent at Dick's trading house, before devoting himself to his scientific and political work. In a 1984 photograph of...

The Gulf Port and the Navy Base will be transferred to the jurisdiction of the Haifa Municipality.

The naval base and the Gulf Port will be assigned to the jurisdiction of the city of Haifa, according to the decision of the Minister of the Interior, Moshe Arbel.

Interior Minister Moshe Arbel signed today (Wednesday, March 19, 3) a decision according to which the "Bay Port" area will be assigned to the jurisdiction of the Haifa Municipality, following the recommendation of the Ministry's Director General, Mr. Ronen Peretz, who adopted the position of the Haifa Geographical Committee.

The municipality will also include sea areas used by the port, as well as another area used as a naval base, which was previously outside its jurisdiction. In total, the minister decided to include an area of approximately 10,253 dunams in Haifa's territory.

The Gulf Port has been operated by SIPG since September 2021, when an artificial spit of land was established in a drained marine area and the port was built on it. Therefore, it has not been part of the municipal territory of the Haifa Municipality until now.

The Minister's decision to assign the port area to the Haifa Municipality will give it the authority and responsibility for various aspects of supervision, control, and enforcement of the area, and will also allow it to collect property tax payments from the port and the naval base assigned to it, similar to other ports and military facilities within its jurisdiction.

In his decision, the Minister also discussed the distribution of property tax revenues received from the port and other areas, including the refineries and other areas in Haifa that will be used to provide back-end services to the city's seaports, to authorities adjacent to Haifa. On this issue, the Minister decided to act to return the issue for reconsideration by the Haifa Geographical Committee, with a comprehensive view of the area and in light of changes that have occurred in it over time.

  1. The cities of the Krayot want to receive property taxes and not provide services to these facilities.
This is simply absurd. They will divide income but not divide expenses????
What are they not telling us?
The cities of the suburbs are being run wastefully, duplicating entire wings four times over into a city of 4 neighborhoods with 3-35 thousand residents. Half of Neve Sha'anan will say, "Isn't it time to end this farce and unite?" Promote high tech. Promote hotels. Promote marinas. Promote golf courses.
Four lazy fishers are sitting in toy municipalities and demanding to receive property taxes from Haifa. You've gone too far.
