Friedrich Merz, radio amateur, pilot, leader of the CDU party and the next Chancellor of Germany
As a radio enthusiast for 50 years, and a member of the Israeli Radio Communications Association, I have met interesting people through my hobby.
We, radio enthusiasts, are not supposed to "get involved" in politics, and I sometimes write what I think about the politicians who control us, who are not content with what the law gives them, and who have an appetite for increasing their options through legal revolution and through tricks and shenanigans, even in days of a difficult and prolonged war, when our hostages are still languishing in the tunnels...
For this, I was severely criticized by some of my amateur friends…
This is the situation in Israel, but in the wider world, some radio enthusiasts have come a long way in local and international politics.
For example, Hussein, King of Jordan, was an active radio amateur and even met with Israeli amateurs; Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was an active radio amateur; Barry Goldwater, who was a candidate for US presidency, was a radio amateur who also worked for the benefit of radio amateurs in his country.
On 23/2/2025, Friedrich Merz (also a radio amateur), leader of the right-wing CDU party, was elected Chancellor of Germany, the richest and most important country in Western Europe.
In his youth, Merz was a "mischievous" boy. He loved to ride motorcycles, drink beer, and play pranks with his friends. Before starting his higher education, he served in the German army.
Mertz is a lawyer and the son of a judge. He met his wife Charlotte, also a judge, at university when they were both studying law. The couple had three children. Mertz is also a licensed and active pilot.
He is said to be a supporter of the State of Israel and an admirer of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is expected to be the first foreign leader to visit Germany after March takes office as Chancellor. It has been reported that the German government will ignore the arrest warrant issued against Netanyahu by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
In an interview with the magazine GDXF-14, which focuses on prominent figures among radio enthusiasts and journalists in the 80s, Mertz expressed his affection for the field, despite his busy schedule, which prevents him from active participation.
Mertz said that he finds a connection between his life story and his love of radio, having received an A license in 1972 and being active until 1980, and expressed optimism about his return to the hobby in the future. Mertz emphasized the importance of the support of influential people among radio enthusiasts and suggested utilizing their influence for the benefit of the community.
Hopefully the new Chancellor will influence and support the establishment of peace in this part of the world.

Interesting article.
It was worth noting in your lecture to the "Shoresh" group.
Thanks, I need to save some stories for the next lecture…
Worldly Jews respect and consider our Prime Minister among the greatest in the world, even if they disagree with and sympathize with Israel.
Only here, there are quite a few who allow themselves to be spoken of in shallow and disparaging language.
But it's like Gantz said today that some of them are barn-wreckers and hate Netanyahu more than they love the country.
Same story with Persia. In the land of Aa, and in the world of Wahoo.
There is a saying in Polish that says:
kto by cie nie znal to by cie kupil
It means that someone who doesn't know you would buy you...
It's true that Bibi has fans around the world, because he speaks eloquently and knows how to "sell himself..."
I really don't admire him and believe: Bibi has done his thing, so Bibi can go (to retirement).
Cheers to the legal revolution of the BIBists!
There is also a Yiddish saying, "Seeking a manna." The simple truth is that the ridiculous left is only looking for partisans and protesters, but fortunately, the will of the people decided that the helm was in the hands of Netanyahu, who saved the State of Israel and led Israel, contrary to the Ahithophelian advice of Gantz and his friends at the top of the security establishment, to a revival, thanks to his composure and excellent decisions under international pressure before the days of Trump and hostile media from abroad and at home.
And it's not for nothing that 2 million people choose it over and over again, and we'll continue to write and respond to a few dozen surfers on a good day.
Shame on you, the commenter, I meant in my response to brats like you who have no manners or education, and we also saw in the studios how they are being brutalized in their discourse about the government and our Prime Minister and contempt for you who don't know what democracy is, and go home!
You will learn from the author of the article, Naftali Bilban, and the commenter, Dubi, how to write respectfully about our Prime Minister and how they respect themselves.
Thanks for a fascinating article. I loved it!!!
Thanks!!!
