(haipo) – On Good Deeds Day (Tuesday, March 18, 3), volunteers from Israel and around the world take to the waves for victims of trauma from the Iron Swords War and youth at risk as part of the activities of the Hegel Shelli Association's surfing center in Kiryat Yam.
On Good Deeds Day, which will take place tomorrow (Tuesday), the Ruach Tova Association from the Arison Group, volunteers from Israel and around the world will hold activities for at-risk youth and trauma victims, as part of the "My Wave" association. The volunteers will be able to experience the power of surfing as an educational and therapeutic tool.

Surfing as a tool for resilience and coping
The My Wave Association has been working for over a decade with at-risk girls and boys, trauma victims, special education and people with disabilities, and operates a unique program that uses surfing as a tool for developing resilience, self-confidence and coping with life's challenges.
Surfing, as a challenging and dynamic activity, helps participants discover their inner strengths, strengthens their sense of competence, and teaches them to deal with changes and crises.
Since October 7, 2023, the association has expanded its activities and adapted the therapeutic program to provide a focused response to victims of the Iron Sword War, using surfing as a tool for processing experiences, strengthening the sense of competence, and restoring a sense of control.
Coping with the waves, currents, and falls – until equilibrium is achieved – reflects coping with life's challenges, in accordance with the association's approach: "As in the sea, so in life."
Among the notable volunteers this year is Aviv Goshio, 18, from Montana, USA, who came to Israel out of a deep sense of mission following the events of October 7. Although she grew up in the US, Aviv is connected to Israel through her extended family and visits the country twice a year. After looking for a meaningful way to donate, she was exposed to the activities of the Hegel Sheli association and decided to join as an active volunteer.
"When I heard about My Wave, I knew this was where I wanted to be. Surfing is an amazing therapeutic tool and I see every day how it empowers young people. Volunteering here has become a significant part of my life and I feel like I have the right to take part in real change," says Aviv.
Aviv accompanies four groups of at-risk boys and girls, assists in translating materials into English for the organization's international outreach and activities in the field of therapeutic trauma, and dedicates her time to personally mentoring the participants. For Aviv, this is a kind of year of service that allows her to give of herself and contribute to the community in a meaningful and profound way.
