Danny Wolfberg, the athletics coach who educated generations of athletes and students in Haifa, has passed away

(haipo) – The world of athletics in Israel is mourning the passing of Danny Wolfberg, an athletics coach and physical education teacher, who passed away last weekend.

Wolfberg, who was born in Chile in 1963 and immigrated to Israel alone, was a significant figure in the field of sports in the country.
His students, colleagues, and many others who knew him from the various sports institutions in which he worked over the years, wrote moving and painful farewells in his memory.

Danny left behind a wife and two daughters. His funeral took place on Sunday, March 16, 3, at the Zichron Yaakov Cemetery.

From Chile to Israel – from sports to teaching

Danny Wolfberg was born in Chile in 1963, the son of a Holocaust survivor. From a young age, he was involved in athletics and specialized in the high jump. He stood out for his talent as an athlete, and by the time he was 16, he had already managed to clear two meters.

He competed for Chile at the Pan American Championships and was considered a promising athlete. After immigrating to Israel, he combined his love of sports with education and began working as a physical education teacher and athletics coach.

His contributions to athletics and education

Wolfberg dedicated his life to promoting sports and physical education in Israel. He coached the Maccabi Haifa Carmel athletics team for many years, as well as the Technion team. He also worked for Maccabi Tel Aviv for three years. He also taught physical education at the 5th Municipal School in Haifa, where he served as a central educational figure for many students.

The Athletics Association bows its head

The Israel Athletics Association paid tribute to Wolfberg: "The Israel Athletics Association bows its head and mourns the untimely passing of the late Daniel (Danny) Wolfberg. He was a first-rate professional, who dedicated much of his personal and professional knowledge to the benefit of Israeli athletics. Danny was a true friend and a kind and amazing person."

Saying goodbye to a beloved teacher

The management of the Haifa Municipal School No. 1990, where Wolfberg taught for more than two decades, said goodbye to him with sadness: "We announce with great sadness the death of our friend Danny Wolfberg, who worked as a physical education teacher at the school from 2020 to XNUMX. Danny was also a dedicated athletics coach who achieved great achievements and held the Chilean record in the high jump."

"Trained and educated generations of athletes"

The Maccabi Haifa Carmel Association, where Wolfberg served as a senior coach, expressed deep sorrow over his passing: "Danny previously managed the Green Athletics Department, raised generations of athletes and educated thousands of children as a physical education teacher at the Ironi H school. May his memory be blessed."

Much more than a coach

Roy Schwatz, CEO of the Maccabi Haifa Association, said goodbye to Danny with warm words: "It was with great sadness that I received the news of Danny Wolfberg's passing. It is difficult to digest the loss of such a significant figure in the world of athletics and physical education. Danny was much more than a coach - he was an educator, a leader and a man of values. His commitment to sports and the development of young people, alongside his warm and inspiring personality, will remain engraved in all of our hearts."

Memories from his students

Wolfberg's students remember him with great affection and respect. Gilad Petro, his former student, says: "Danny was my gym teacher and we really liked him in high school. He was very serious in his lessons in terms of content, and at the same time, he knew how to combine humor and wit. I remember him very fondly."

Daniel Mor-Yosef, another student, talks about Wolfberg's significant figure: "I am an athlete and a soccer player, so sports lessons were very much my favorite, and Danny was a very significant figure for me. He saw the students beyond the lesson, understood the importance of rest alongside training. He believed in education according to each student's personal path and integrated each one into the group that suited them. His path was very correct and healthy for the students."

An impact that will last for generations

Danny Wolfberg left a deep mark on the world of athletics and education in Israel. Students, colleagues and sports institutions cherish his contribution and continue to operate in his spirit. His legacy will live on through the many generations of students and athletes who were privileged to learn from him. May his memory be blessed.

Those responsible will be brought to justice one day, Amen.
    May his memory be blessed.

  2. There are many dear and important people who pass away. There are also well-known people who need medical help, such as a transplant.
So I have a suggestion for the editor: maybe you could open a memorial section with stories and comments so that it's organized, as well as with the obituary, the memorial, the stories, and how to contact the families or
Those who handle it this way will find it easier to add information and remember lots of dear people without depriving anyone.
