(live here) – Haifa’s famous promenade, which began as a project first announced by Yona Yahav in 2012, now marks the final stage in a long and winding process. Planning struggles, missed deadlines, and expensive installations that rusted and were removed before they could be used – all are part of the complex story of the Hulda Promenade.
Map – Hulda Promenade
This is the only promenade in Israel that faces north and is located on the northern edge of Haifa's shores. The promenade runs from Bat Galim Beach to Rambam.
The beginning of the Hulda Promenade and the freeze of work
The project announced by Yona Yahav in 2012 was supposed to upgrade Haifa's beaches and provide a solution for tourism and community development.
In October 2018, about 4 weeks before the elections, in which Yona Yahav lost to Einat Kalish, Yahav went out into the field and, in a festive and hopeful event, the Haifa Municipality tractor knocked down the wall that separated the Navy Headquarters from the Bat Galim Promenade. For Yahav, this was the final chord of a campaign leading up to the elections, in which he lost.
This was the signal for the start of work on the promenade in the Navy area, which was later named Hulda Promenade, after Hulda Gurvitz, a Haifa resident who passed away. But even though facilities were installed on the site in 2000, the work encountered difficulties. One of the main reasons for this was the failure to build a small bridge that was a physical barrier to completing the promenade, which caused a major delay in the project. Despite the promises and expectations, the promenade remained closed for many years.
In September 2020, the Haifa Municipality, headed by Einat Kalish, even held a ceremony to inaugurate the promenade, in honor of Hulda Gurevich, who later passed away. Hulda was very moved, but the promenade remained closed.
Final completion of the project: 13 years after the announcement
In March 2025, after 13 years of delays, the Haifa Municipality announced that the work on the Hulda Promenade had been completed and the bridge, which had been a major obstacle, had been erected. Now, the promenade has been opened to public use, and has become accessible to the general public. The completion of the work is added to the background of quite a few projects that have been carried out in the city, but in this case, the matter concerns a long and ongoing process that required great patience on the part of both residents and the municipality. The promenade begins in the northeast of the Bat Galim Promenade and reaches as far as the Rambam Hospital helipad, which adds additional value to it in terms of access and view.
The current situation: Old, rusty installations removed and a look to the future
Although the bridge has been built and the promenade is now open to the public, the facilities that were installed about five years ago have already rusted and been removed. Many estimate that new facilities will be required to meet the needs of the public who come to the promenade. This process poses new challenges for the Haifa Municipality, which will have to ensure that the promenade remains a pleasant and accessible place over time, with facilities that suit the spirit of the times and the demands of the public.
The completion of the project is not only positive news for Haifa residents, but also a statement of the municipality's commitment to developing the area and upgrading public services. However, for the place to remain attractive over the long term, constant investment in maintenance and upgrading of facilities is necessary, which can prevent similar problems in the future.
First of all, I would like to thank you, Aki, for the article.
This one. May you be strong. This is a promenade named after Hulda Gurevich, very beautiful and invested in by the Haifa Municipality, since Golda was a member of the Haifa City Council. May her memory be blessed forever, God willing.
As a resident of Haifa, the city where I was born and raised (82 years old), I was happy to inaugurate the new promenade in Bat Galim today. It was very well-invested in and beautiful. It was a pleasure to walk from start to finish. Finally, after so many years, I was able to see it. Thanks to Mayor Yona Yahav, who did not give up and was able to fulfill his dream. Now all that remains is to take care of the neglected casino complex.
I would...looks good and promising...but what always happens when work is done by contractors in Haifa is not properly completed..
There are sections of the paved promenade that are already falling apart with a bad ending...why???
No supervision of the extension? Didn't it cost enough?
It would have been better if the stone fit together in a beautiful formation….
Thanks
Opening the German colony to the sea means that there will be access to the sea below instead of the part that closes and blocks access today.
The port can be moved or a beautiful marina can be built, as in other cities around the world and in Israel, such as in Herzliya, for example.
And so there will be a continuous promenade all the way to the Carmel Beach.
Rat promenade….
Couldn't you find a nicer animal?
Like… the Serval Promenade…
Or the Links Promenade…
Or the Emaltz promenade….
A promenade named after an animal…disgusting
It's there.

Do you mean above the port and the ships? Or below them? Or maybe there will be a security checkpoint, and scooters that will transport residents through the port to the shore?
Residents of Haifa, you deserve more than an asphalt path with a few palm trees in front of a base fence.
You deserve to enjoy the beach without a base that blocks a third of the waves.
You deserve to enjoy a marina of 200 yachts and water sports activities.
You deserve hotels, restaurants, events and fun, not just a small path and a few benches.
You deserve a municipality that fights for the future of the city and doesn't give in to any other factor like in Shikoh.
The promenade is beautiful, but once again, like the rest of the promenade, there is no shade so that you can sit in the summer and enjoy. They planted palm trees that do not provide shade. I hope they plant trees on the beach so that you can sit in the shade in the summer on a sunny day.
We need to see the Palms Bat Galim Hotel there, below it are 3 beach restaurants with 100 tables. Next to them is a park with fitness facilities with dozens of young people. Opposite is music and dancing near "Deker Square" with the statue of the submarine wreck and next to the entrance to the marina with the yachts from which the spectators sail in their shack. Further down the path is the new Continental Bat Galim Hotel in the shape of a shell. Opposite is the yacht "Blue" that sails with its tourists to Acre and back.
Just don't sell us an asphalt road as development.
