A very disappointing season for Maccabi Haifa, the green runner-up continues to fail to impress, as in the penultimate game of the regular season of the 2024/25 Israeli Premier League, the team loses to Ashdod Sport Club in a home game at Sami Ofer. The despair is evident on the faces of the fans.

In the 26th round of the Super League, Maccabi Haifa (Sunday, 9/3/2025) hosted the M. S. Ashdod team at its home field at the "Sammy Ofer" Stadium in Haifa, with the Greens suffering an embarrassing loss. Maccabi Haifa crashed out at home with a 2:1 loss against Ashdod under the leadership of its new coach, Haim Silves.

Ashdod scored Noam Mucha (minute 45) and Shlomi Azoulay (minute 89), while Guy Melamed scored his first goal for the Greens (minute 68). It should be noted that additional goals by Guy Melamed and Roi Elimelech were disallowed due to offside. We should also add that throughout the shameful game, there were shrill boos directed at the team and at their coach Barak Bachar. There is no doubt that Maccabi Haifa has had a terrible season, and the one who ruined their plans was actually the bottom-of-the-league team, MS Ashdod.

Dominate and absorb
At the end of the game, Maccabi Haifa's disappointed coach, Barak Bachar, said: "A pretty typical game of ours, we control and concede too easily. We don't take advantage of momentum in the game, which is a shame. We went up with a lot of players, we wanted to bring the best minutes from Be'er Sheva and we didn't succeed. This team knew how to pick itself up again this year, we're starting the playoffs and we proved that we can rise even against the better teams. We're working to solve the problem with the fans, we need the encouragement of the crowd. I know that they're trying to sort this issue out, we need the support of our fans. We need to make sure we finish at least in 3rd place, and we'll do everything to achieve that."

At the end of the game, one of the staunch and veteran fans of the Maccabi Haifa team, Dr. Yaakov Ben Shaul, told the sports reporter for "Haifa News Corporation":
"I came to a happy game together with Jonathan, my 12-year-old grandson. We were both disappointed with Maccabi Haifa's game, but there's nothing we can do. This season is not ours and we're not doing well. It happens that there's a season like that. When you attack and don't score, you get goals from the other side. My grandson, Jonathan, told me that his heart hurt a lot from all the boos heard on the field from the fans against the team and coach Barak Bachar. It really wasn't ugly, nor was it pretty. Let's hope for better games soon."

The players of the "Maccabi" Haifa team will continue to be strong. Yours with love, Rafi Rafael - Hasson, senior journalist. Daliat El - Carmel. Direct phone 0525045476
