(haipo) – During a hike near the Nesher Quarry, on Friday, 7/3/25, environmental activist Arik Drobot came across several carcasses of wild animals, including two jackals. Following his report, it turned out that this was a serious poisoning case. Nature and Parks Authority inspectors, who were called to the scene by Arik, searched the area using poison-detecting dogs and located three jackal carcasses, a fox, a hedgehog, a crow, and meat bait. Drobot emphasizes the importance of the public's vigilance in reporting unusual cases in nature, and warns dog owners of the potential danger of poisoning.

Reporting poisonings – a real danger to wildlife
Eric Drobot, an environmental activist, noticed several carcasses of wild animals during a routine walk in the Nesher Quarry area. Among the carcasses found were two jackals, and later a fox and a dead hedgehog were also discovered. Drobot's quick report led to the arrival of personnel from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority (NPA) to the area, where clear signs of poisoning were discovered, including bait that was apparently placed intentionally. There is serious concern that this type of poisoning could cause serious damage to the local ecosystem.
Danger to pets too
Beyond the devastating impact of poisoning on wildlife, Drobot also warns dog owners about the danger their pets face. Dogs can ingest toxic substances while out hiking, especially if they are undisciplined and eat off the floor. Such cases can end in tragedy, so extra caution should be taken when hiking in natural areas, especially in areas where poisonings have been reported.
Call to the public: Be vigilant and do not ignore
Drobot urges the traveling public to pay attention to any unusual signs in nature and to report to the appropriate authorities if they come across wildlife carcasses. He emphasizes that awareness and vigilance can prevent further harm to animals and even save endangered species, such as vultures, which can be seriously affected by secondary poisoning. According to him, in areas like Nesher, such cases are very rare, and therefore any unusual event requires immediate attention from the public and the authorities.
Response from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority:
Following a report received yesterday evening of suspected poisoning, a search was conducted this morning by Nature and Parks Authority inspectors with the assistance of dogs to detect toxins at the Nesher quarry near Mount Carmel National Park. The searches found three jackals, a fox, a hedgehog, a crow and meat bait. The samples will be sent for examination of the circumstances of the death.
Greetings…
I am a resident of Nesher from Duchifat Street. Last month, on February 10.2, my Japanese Spitz dog died as a result of massive and rapid poisoning. All signs indicated this. Massive internal bleeding. Listen. I am filled with rage and anger, my blood boiling in the face of the article about the intentional poisoning by malicious and heartless elements. People are simply cruel. There is no other word.
The Authority needs and must enforce the criminal issue, accompanied by the RTA…
I can no longer get my dog back. The phenomenon must be rooted out so that other dog owners do not experience such a tragedy. I would be happy to receive an answer on this matter.
What about opening a criminal investigation by the RTG to catch the vile criminal who spread the poison?
The heart is also saddened by the unnecessary death, by the fact that there are cruel people in the world, and especially because this is a terrible, painful death for animals. Terrible. Simply terrible.
