(haipo) – The prosecution filed an indictment with the Haifa District Court against Jonathan (Toby) Suleiman, 45, of Kiryat Ata, for the murder of his sister, Avivit Lihi Ariel, 48, using hammers.
According to the indictment, filed by Attorney Yossi Gimpel of the Haifa District Criminal Prosecutor's Office, the murder occurred on January 15, 1, while the defendant was staying with his sister in the family's apartment in Kiryat Ata. According to the indictment, Suleiman attacked his sister with two hammers and struck her head at least five times, with the aim of causing her death. The attack occurred in Avivit's room, shortly after their mother left the house to go shopping.
After committing the act, the indictment alleges, the defendant washed his hands and fled the apartment toward Herzl Park in the city. Police forces, who were called to the scene following the report, located Suleiman in the park and arrested him.
In a request to extend his detention until the end of the proceedings, the prosecution wrote that this was "a shocking and tragic event that shakes every human heart. The defendant murdered his sister by hitting her in the head with a hammer, inside her home and in her fortress. This is an act that violates every basic value of family, love, and life. The circumstances described in the indictment reveal particularly severe violence within the small family unit, where the defendant and the deceased lived under one roof."
The prosecution requested his continued detention until the end of the legal proceedings against him.
