You show a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation in Israel and the nature of terrorism. There is no connection between those released in the Shalit deal and the terrorist acts that followed. For every terrorist arrested in Israel, three new ones were born throughout the occupied territories, and this is only because they are occupied.
On October 7, there were about 30,000 Hamas soldiers in Gaza. The IDF has killed at least 45,000 Gazans, and some report 60,000, and yet Hamas displays an impressive presence in the Strip. This happens because for every Hamasnik killed, three others who had not thought of it before join. It is a hydra, the number of its heads multiplying with each head that is cut off.
In addition, there are live hostages in Gaza right now, tortured and suffering. Sacrificing them on the altar of future victims who it is impossible to know whether they will ever exist or not is inhumane. The State of Israel screwed up on October 7, and failures must be paid for. The price is the cost of releasing the hostages, whatever it may be. We will have to deal with the price later, but we cannot avoid paying it.
