(haipo) – Last December (2024), the Haifa Municipality announced the cessation of the use of parking meters throughout the city – at the end of January 2025. The purpose of ceasing the use of meters is to improve accessibility in public spaces and adapt payment methods to the digital age.
Although the meters have already been taken out of use, they still stand on the sidewalks, covered with black plastic sheeting, blighting the public space.
The question arises: How long will it be before they are removed from their place?

Over a month
On January 31, 2025, the operation of parking meters throughout Haifa was discontinued, in accordance with the municipality's decision to transfer parking payment through digital means, i.e. through parking applications only. The decision was made after an inspection conducted by the municipality, which revealed that the use of the meters was very low, and also out of a desire to free up space on the sidewalks and thus improve accessibility for pedestrians, parents with strollers, and disabled people in wheelchairs. In addition, the removal of the meters is expected to save the municipality maintenance and upkeep costs.
However, ten days have passed since they were taken out of use, but they are still standing in their place, taking up space in the public space without any purpose and harming the visibility of the city.
Has the removal of the meters already begun and we haven't noticed? If not, when is this expected to happen?
The Haifa Municipality informed Haifa: "As we reported, the use of the meters was indeed discontinued about a week ago on January 31.1.2025, XNUMX. According to the contract with the company that carries out the dismantling of the meters will be carried out gradually until April, so that wherever a meter is removed, the municipality works to fill the potholes and restore the sidewalks for the benefit of the public."
Sounds like an unnecessary rant.
It's only been ten days. Removing them from the entire city is a big project, and certainly not one that has to happen the day they go out of use.
I know it's fun to make complaints against the authorities, and they usually deserve it, but it also needs to be done with a little logic.
I wonder what drivers who don't have credit cards are supposed to do? After all, not everyone has one and the Aplitskyites don't provide another payment solution, so what exactly are drivers supposed to do? Or are they supposed to not pay, go to court and demand compensation for emotional distress?
Is that what's bothering you? The black cover? Isn't the fact that the hannel is a creation of inequality and even a basis for a class action lawsuit?
There were some regarding the bus service in Haifa and its availability and availability regarding Carmelit. The results with the municipality paying millions for various needs as compensation and the lawyers costing more than the maintenance of the meters.
But come on.. another lawsuit.. a small one for us in enlightened Haifa
Important article, Mrs. Samar. Good morning.
A black cover evokes associations better than white or blue.
