(haipo) – "The Russian Sting" – Coastal District police arrested a 66-year-old resident of Kiryat Motzkin. Additional arrests are expected later.
The police told Lai Pa:
A credit card fraud scandal worth millions was revealed this morning (Sunday, 9/2/25) with dozens of cases.
In recent months, the Coast District's fraud division conducted an undercover investigation in cooperation with Lt. Col. Menashe, regarding credit card fraud amounting to millions of shekels.
As part of the investigation, it emerged that suspects approached victims from the Russian sector and introduced themselves as police officers from the cyber department, telling them that they were part of an ongoing investigation into fraud in their bank accounts.
Meanwhile, the suspects managed to obtain the victims' account details and thus began using their credit cards to carry out transactions and withdraw funds.
Another method of operation revealed today is through remote control of the victims' mobile phones. The suspects were able to collect information and bank accounts.
At this stage, there are 40 different cases that the police have uncovered.
Today, as the case moved into the open phase, the Coast District police arrested the suspect, a 66-year-old resident of Kiryat Motzkin, for questioning at the offices of the Fraud Division in the Coast District.
Depending on the needs of the investigation and its findings, the police will request an extension of her detention in the Magistrate's Court.
The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are expected.
What needs to be done in the Russian media is to explain to the elderly not to give anyone access to their accounts. If there is a problem, they should contact the bank on their own initiative and find out. Their relatives should clarify this issue with them.
