(haipo) – Residents of the Bat Galim neighborhood in Haifa are pointing out a serious problem of collapsing street poles, as a result of the accelerated corrosion phenomenon in the area. An incident in which a signage pole collapsed has already occurred, and now there is a real concern that an electrical pole will collapse due to the same reason. This is a worrying reality that undermines public safety in the area, and also harms the visibility of the neighborhood.

Residents of the neighborhood, considered a striped gem in the city, complain about the municipality's lack of professionalism and lack of understanding of the special needs of the area. "The problem is not a specific one," says Nava Carmel, a third-generation resident of the Bat Galim neighborhood and a local activist. "It's a widespread problem that causes suffering for the entire neighborhood. The pillars are rusty and could collapse, but the bigger problem is the municipality's lack of care. We're constantly told that it's not their problem, but who should take care of it if not the municipality? They collect property taxes from me, and this public space must be maintained."
Corrosion, a chemical process caused by exposure to high acidity or alkalinity, is caused in this case mainly by the proximity to the sea, which increases the humidity in the environment. This phenomenon is accelerated when iron comes into contact with air and moisture over time, and thus rust develops, making the columns particularly vulnerable.
Residents in the neighborhood are demanding immediate attention from the municipality, not only to prevent the risk of collapse, but also to improve the overall appearance of the public space. "We can't live in an environment like this, with rusty and neglected pillars," adds Carmel. "The municipality needs to take responsibility for what's happening in the public space and respond quickly before it's too late."

The electric company gave Hai Fa in response:
"The electric company performs periodic inspections and ongoing maintenance, while giving special emphasis to neighborhoods near the sea. In this case, the company is sending an inspector today to conduct an inspection and transfer the treatment as needed."
No response was given from the Haifa municipality.
The lighting poles on the Gural Promenade
Why were they connected to electricity???
Haven't heard of solar lighting???
The pillars are not galvanized and are severely damaged by corrosion due to their proximity to the sea.
How do you issue a lighting tender for a place like this without galvanized poles??????????
The strong winds will knock down the pillars!!
Replace them immediately!!
So why do they want to build so many apartments there? These are houses that will wear out more quickly.
Come on, Shimi…
Is there anything in Haifa that is good?
We moved to Haifa 4 years ago and in the meantime I only hear and see bad things about this city…
A bad mayor followed by a tired old man
And this whole city is falling apart.
At the entrance to the street where I live, the road looks like an accident.
But hey, they "reduced" the wild boars.. (Not really.. this week I saw a cute family running in the neighborhood)
It's still worth buying an apartment in Bat Galim for four million shekels hahahaha all of Haifa is falling apart, not just Bat Galim, disgrace
To Mayor Yona Yahav. Why were you re-elected? You made promises before the elections. I believed in you and you are very disappointing. Your ego was simply hurt that Kalisz ousted you in the previous elections and you wanted to prove that you would come back in a big way.. The entire city of Haifa needs an urgent facelift, besides killing pigs there is more to do. And you yourself declared that this is your last term. So invest!
This whole country is falling apart, these are just the side effects.
That's how it was when I was a child. All the electrical stuff was literally destroyed, even the wooden shutters that were attached to the building with iron. My late father used to paint often. I remember a lot of things with rust. Pierre, I'm a little shocked by this situation.
Every galim boat suffers from accelerated corrosion. You wanted close to the sea, you got it. There is no sense, there are worries..
There's a dangerous buildings department at the municipality. Let them start working.
Before they hire a single structural engineer to work there…
Sea salt destroys all metals, even the finest, and requires close maintenance, otherwise you risk disaster.
