The Tirat Carmel Municipality, through the Environmental Quality Department in the Waste Management Division and in cooperation with the Israel Recycling Corporation, distributed approximately 2,400 special kits for collecting old batteries and information sheets detailing the recycling process this week.
The Tirat Carmel Municipality, through the Environmental Quality Department in the Waste Management Division, is taking part in an important national campaign in collaboration with the Israel Electronics Recycling Corporation, which aims to raise awareness and deal with the problem of environmentally harmful electronic waste.
As part of the campaign, which also includes activities in educational institutions, neighborhoods and communities across the country, approximately 2,400 kits were hung on apartment doors in recent days, including bags for collecting old batteries and information sheets about the recycling process and its importance.

Families who receive this type of kit are invited to collect old batteries as well as small electronic waste – such as remote controls, computer monitors, keyboards and kettles – and bring it to one of the five designated collection points located in the city: 38 Natan Elbaz St., 2 Almog St., 23 Etzel St., 68 Herzl St. and 2 Hashirion St.
Every year, Israeli citizens produce approximately 160 million kilograms of electronic waste, with each resident producing an average of approximately 17 kilograms per year. Although electronic waste constitutes only about three percent of all waste, in fact it constitutes about 70 percent of its toxic content, including lead and mercury, which are very harmful to the health of residents. These substances can cause diseases in the nervous and respiratory systems and pollute the environment, water sources, and air.
Join the recycling campaign – and make a significant change for the environment and your health and that of all of us!
