Over 50 senior candidates applied for the position, and the selection process included comprehensive professional screenings and exams designed to ensure the selection of the most suitable person. The selection of Markowitz, who has extensive experience in business development and strategic management, marks a new beginning for the company and the vision for the economic advancement of the city of Haifa.

Rani Bender, Chairman of the Economic Society for Haifa He congratulated Markowitz on joining the company and said: "I am pleased that Hanan is joining the company's management team, after a lengthy selection process, and I am confident that the knowledge and extensive experience he brings with him will help lead the Haifa Economic Company forward, to long years of success and initiating significant projects for the city."

Website live here, who closely covers the activities of the economic society, wishes Hanan great success in his new role. We believe that this change is critical and essential for the future of Haifa – a city in need of urgent and immediate renewal and change.

Who are you, Hanan Markowitz?

I am 49 years old, married with two daughters, a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Technion and an MBA from the University of Haifa. I bring over 20 years of experience in business management, strategic development, and marketing in 5 international technology industries, where I managed teams, budgets, and large projects.

As an avid bookkeeper and a man of numbers, I voluntarily initiated in-depth research on the city's economy, published many articles that reached tens of thousands of readers, in which I focused on the city's main challenges in the areas of employment, tourism, real estate, and more. In addition, I proposed practical solutions. On a personal level, I see my role as CEO of the Economic Society as a mission and a privilege to lead the city's development, its prosperity, and to ensure that young people, including my daughters, choose to continue living here and build their future.

What have you done in recent years?

I was involved in promoting innovative technological initiatives and strategic projects. As part of my role as VP of Business Development at PV Nano Cell, I created collaborations with leading companies in the world and led the company to advanced projects in the field of 3D printing of conductive materials. Previously, I served as VP of Marketing and Products at Robust, where we developed solutions for smart cities and collaborated with municipal entities in the United States to promote smart infrastructure management systems.

During my career, I founded and managed a startup company in the field of smart cities, where we worked on technological developments for managing city infrastructure and improving municipal services. Additionally, in my role as a board member at companies such as Gaash Lighting Solutions and Metrolight, I led business processes and focused on promoting technological projects in the local and international markets.

As part of my passion for Haifa, I have initiated in-depth research on the city's economic and employment challenges, published many articles with practical suggestions for solutions, and I see a real mission in leading Haifa forward toward a future of innovation, economy, and quality employment.

What are your goals for the position?

First, I intend to study the company's activities in depth, map the situation, and formulate a work plan with measurable goals that will be approved by the board of directors. I see my role as a true mission to lead Haifa to become a leading economic metropolis in the north.

I will work closely with the Board of Directors and Chairman Rani Bender, and will work to realize three key growth engines:
Strengthening high-tech employment, developing unique tourism, and expanding commercial real estate. The work plans will focus on creating quality jobs, increasing revenue for the municipality, and investing in groundbreaking projects that will bring prosperity to the city and its residents.

How will you fulfill the dream of Haifa residents to be proud of Haifa?

I think that Haifa residents already have a lot to be proud of. I intend to focus the economic society on the main growth engines, such as employment, tourism and real estate, to ensure economic growth that will be invested back into residents, attract new populations and improve the quality of life in the city. Alongside this, we will refine Haifa's unique value proposition, brand it as a leading center in Israel and the world and promote innovative initiatives with partners from the private and public sectors. Through focused action and fruitful partnerships, we will transform Haifa into a city that symbolizes success, renewal and pride for all its residents.

5 issues that are most important to you and that you will begin to address upon taking office:

  1. Hi-tech employment: Creating quality jobs in the city while strengthening ties with academia and bringing leading companies to Haifa.
  2. Tourism development: Building unique tourist attractions and infrastructure and branding Haifa as a major tourist destination.
  3. Commercial real estate: Significantly increasing the area of productive real estate in the city to support economic growth.
  4. Collaboration with private entrepreneurs: Promoting initiatives in partnership with the private sector and bringing new investments to the city.
  5. Data-driven management: Implementing decision-making processes based on accurate data and in-depth analysis.

Concluding words

I thank the mayor, the board of directors and the members of the tender committee for the trust they have placed in me. I intend to work in full cooperation with all the leading elements in the city and bring Haifa to new achievements, prosperity and success. I love the city and will do everything in my power to make the vision a reality.

  1. The economic society must engage in urban development in the absence of such a development company. The economic society must stop dealing with small scheming and go for large and important projects such as building a new marina, such as renewing all the promenades in Haifa and raising them to prevent flooding, such as the Cliff Park - a metropolitan park in Stella Maris, and above all, promoting the renewal of the outdated cultural buildings in Haifa. Experiencers, libraries, museums - for decades they have not been nurtured and Haifa is in a huge gap compared to the development of cultural complexes in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The economic society must mobilize billions from government ministries to strengthen Haifa as a metropolitan anchor in employment in culture, tourism and also in aviation, and we must push with all our might the international airport by drying up the sea for runways and landings. Without this, Haifa is competing with its hands tied behind its back.
