(haipo) - How do you maintain sanity and security in the middle of the sea, when all the conditions are against you? The Falzur family, parents Nimrod and Shani, experienced sailors from Haifa, live on a boat, together with two children and a dog. During a dream trip to the Caribbean, they found themselves in danger when the engine failed, the mast collapsed, and the boat drifted out of control in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean. With extraordinary effort and rare resourcefulness, they managed to keep their children, recover the lost ship, and face the crisis. This is their story.
An interview with Nimrod Pelzur, who is now on the island of Lanzarote:
"Critical decisions in the middle of the sea"
The drama began shortly after leaving Spain for the Atlantic Ocean, according to Nimrod Pelzur. The engine was dead and the efforts to restore it to operation failed. The sailors decided to continue with the power of the sails only until the next stop, but in the middle of the night, when the family sailed between Spain and the Canary Islands and while the children were sleeping in their beds, the mast, the main means of navigation of the boat, broke and collapsed on the deck. "It was a stressful moment, but there was no choice," says Nimrod Pelzur. "We realized that if we didn't disconnect the heavy mast, it would endanger us and the boat." After having to give up the mast, the family found themselves floating on the waves, in the heart of the ocean, waiting for a ship to respond to the distress signals.

The Royal Caribbean cruise ship responded to the distress call
When the mast was already in the depths of the sea, the antenna that transmits the distress signals also sank with it. That being the case, the distress signals were only picked up at very close distances. Fortunately for the family members, a huge Royal Caribbean cruise ship passed by. The ship launched a small rescue boat and brought the family members on board. From there, the family was rescued to the Canary Islands, which are west of Morocco, in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean, but their boat, which is also their home, remained afloat in the middle of the sea, at the mercy of the waves, currents and winds

"The Search for the Lost Ship"
After the rescue to the Canary Islands, the family prepared to search for the boat that became their home. The search area was huge, as the abandonment occurred about 150 nautical miles north of the Canary Islands. Luckily for them, two teams of Israeli sailors responded to their call, which happened to pass by the Canary Islands. They did not give up - the search for the boat that continued to drift in the middle of the sea was particularly complex. "The search area was huge, and locating it was almost impossible," describes Nimrod. With the help of a marine tracking device that allows limited location reception, the couple went out to the open sea together with other volunteers.

"Cooperation with a strong maritime community"
Throughout the following days, the Pelzur family was assisted by two boats of friend-volunteers, who contributed their time and experience to help find the boat. "It was a group effort," says Nimrod, "everyone understood our situation and gave their hearts to help."
The couple made the first attempt to locate the ship together with Tsiki Shaked from Eilat. The attempt continued but the ship was not located..
The family set out on a second attempt to locate the lost ship through the couple Doron and Koppel, aboard the yacht Dove and indeed, after days of searching, they finally managed to locate the boat about 35 miles from the Canary Islands, tow it back to the marina, and begin the restoration process.

"Resourcefulness and perseverance: the key to success"
Today, the Pelzur family is focused on repairing the boat and preparing for the rest of the journey. "It was a lesson in resourcefulness," shares Nimrod. "We realized how important it is to stay calm, make calculated decisions and not give up." The couple also cite the mutual support and help from the maritime community as a significant factor in their success.
Nimrod quotes his father, the daring sailor Yohai Pelzur:
To overcome such a difficulty you need luck, but luck is an acronym for:
מget up, זfrom andלmade…
"The Caribbean dream is still on the horizon, but we lack a mast that costs 50 thousand euros"
With the boat back in the hands of the family, the hope of getting back on track is still alive, but two challenges now stand before it:
The first challenge is to repair the engine, in a special workshop on the nearby island.
The second challenge is to purchase and install a replacement mast, the cost of which is estimated at 50 euros, an amount that is not currently within reach. To this end, the family launched a crowdfunding campaign, hoping to win the support that would enable the purchase of a pole and the continuation of the journey.
"Despite everything we've been through, we're not giving up on the dream," says mother Shani. While they mobilize resources to replace the mast, they draw strength from the experiences and resourcefulness that led them to overcome the dangerous situation and get their home back on the water.

The destination - a diving center for families in the Caribbean:

Nimrod says that the family's goal is to reach the Caribbean and there to provide experiential diving services for families with children, on the boat. For this they must repair the boat and reach the Caribbean.

The Pelzur family is proof that even in the middle of the sea, in the most difficult situations, it is possible to remain united and act professionally and calmly, and prove that resourcefulness is the key to success.
We in the live system here will continue to accompany them on their challenging journey.
Once again the heroism of Israelis
This is complete stupidity
The engine will come back
The mast has fallen, think about the antenna before throwing it into the water because it is heavy. ..
In my opinion, a miracle happened here because the arrival in the Caribbean area cannot be compared to anything else, it is one of the most dangerous areas in the world, for sure a coconut shell like theirs
Where is bravery and resourcefulness? We were waiting for someone to come...
Just luck and not the kind of father Falzur
Definitely a fascinating story about bravery and composure.
But just a small correction, it's not 'luck' but the creator of the world who leads the world is the one who saved them.
Since it is an aluminum mast and it usually breaks as a result of the pressures of the force close to the body, when buying a boat, two important things must be done, take engine oil to test for particles, and ultra sound or there is a substance that detects cracks under ultraviolet.
There is probably a connection between this story
For the story of the Pelzur family from the Larnaca disaster
which is a very interesting connection that is worth tying
Kudos to the Royal Caribbean ship
who rescued the family ‼️
An exciting story with a happy ending.
But how come there is no insurance for the boat??
Don't understand why go out in bad weather.
Collect donations for a personal journey hahaha...
Maybe someone is willing to buy me a plane ticket to the Caribbean.
Great, champions
Insolence to raise donations for private pleasures. That there is a situation in the country that needs essential things
Donate, write a donation, don't be uninterested don't donate.
They did not ask for the expense to be paid to the public.
That's how it is when you buy a boat from Amidar, next time you'll buy from a reasonable price
How can you go out to sea and live on a boat like this?? If that is the case then you should first donate to the soldiers who go on trips after the army...and then to the families who all want to cruise the oceans!
An important article my friend Yaron Karmi. Happy Hanukkah 🕎 and a good and blessed week to you.
.
An exciting story with a happy ending.
But how come there is no insurance for the boat??
I'm most interested in what about the dog?? They managed to save him..??only the children are mentioned) I don't want to think what the poor man felt in a rocking boat..he must have vomited his soul. Irresponsible
The dog is fine, this is not an ordinary dog, he is also a veteran sailor
Mass recruitment??? Sounds a bit disconnected from the situation in the Land of Israel, don't volunteer, don't enlist, don't identify, but at least face your own adventures alone
A little weird
Good luck, you don't have to
I skipper on a catamaran…
A mast collapse is a very rare thing.
But engines tend to break down. Always store a spare motor sealed in plastic in the belly of the vessel. There are boat engines that don't take up much space and don't weigh much...
Then in an emergency they pull it out and within 5 minutes there is a new engine running.
Always be prepared for any scenario. Oceanus is really not a wave pool.
all due respect! This whole journey is inspiring
