(Live here) – Tonight, Tuesday 24/12/24, Christmas Eve is celebrated, and the houses and yards are lit up with decorations that add a festive atmosphere to the joy. The fir trees and the windows are lit, and with the arrival of Hanukkah tomorrow (Wednesday 25/12/24), when the first candle will be lit, the atmosphere is only getting stronger. But alongside the joy and optimism, it is important to be careful - as the beautiful lights can be a source of risk of ignition, which could lead to a fire and even endanger life.
So what should we do to celebrate safely, especially when there are children at home and we all want to avoid mishaps, including buying decorations that don't always meet the standards?. Before connecting the light decorations, it is important to make sure that the conductors, the breaker and the decorations themselves meet the safety standards. Do not connect too many decorations to the same electrical outlet. Only electrical ornaments of a reliable standard should be used. If you are purchasing new ornaments, make sure they are made with heat resistant materials.
Never leave lights on when you are not at home or when the children are sleeping. Use of soft wrappings and possible heat sources, such as candles, may lead to ignition. When lighting the Hanukkah candles, they must be placed in a stable place and away from flammable objects, and watched over at all times. Do not leave the candles unattended. If you have old or damaged lights, you should stop using them and invest in new and safe decorations.
It is important to explain to children the dangers of light and flammable objects, and make sure they do not go near candles or mess with electricity. Adherence to these rules will allow us to celebrate the holiday safely, to maintain the festive atmosphere without endangering our safety.

Fire safety guidelines of fire and rescue services in order to protect life and property:
- Lighting candles by children will only be done under the supervision of an adult.
- It is forbidden to leave a lit menorah unattended! Make sure the candles are turned off before leaving the apartment or going to bed.
- It is forbidden to light Hanukkah candles near flammable materials such as curtains, cupboards and tablecloths and not on flammable surfaces.
- It is forbidden to use menorahs made of flammable materials or improvised menorahs. These may burn as the candles burn out.
- Deep frying will be done under adult supervision only. In the event of a fire, do not extinguish the fire with water. Immediately cover the vessel with a wide lid.
- Install a smoke detector that alerts you to the start of a fire and allows you to quickly escape and call the fire fighters.
- In any emergency call 102 and call the firefighters.

Fire safety guidelines of fire and rescue services in order to protect life and property:

As usual with us, the holidays have become one of two things: either warning and slanderous articles against customs (for example the attempt to cancel Lag B'Omer) or articles about foods and calories because of the holiday.
You don't have even an ounce of real joy from the holidays of Israel, you only look for the negative. During Hanukkah it is a fire hazard. On Pesach it is a danger to choke on matzos. On Rosh Hashanah it is a danger from fake honey. On Yom Kippur it is a danger from bicycles on the roads. On Purim it is a danger from flaming costumes. On Independence Day, there is danger from explosives and fireworks.
Enough already!!!
Happy holiday to all the celebrants. Good and blessed morning
