(haipo) - About two years ago, as I recall, a huge retaining wall collapsed on the Yad Lanai road in Haifa. Following the incident, work began to restore the wall, which finally came to an end last September. Nevertheless, for tenants living in eight buildings in the vicinity of the wall, the restoration is still far from complete. Those tenants live without adequate access to their homes, and in fact still suffer every day from the situation in Rehoff, and the situation is especially severe in emergency situations.
disconnected
As you may remember, in April 2023, a huge supporting wall collapsed on the Yad Lamin road in Haifa, when only by luck no injuries were caused. The works to restore the wall continued over a period of over a year and a half, and upon completion it seemed that here the tenants could breathe a sigh of relief and the nightmare was over. But it turns out that some of the residents of the street, those who live in the eight buildings adjacent to building No. 196 (including), are still completely cut off from any reasonable means of access, which makes their day-to-day life very difficult.
The ambulance failed to arrive
The tenants describe life-threatening situations: "Just last week my husband was not feeling well," says Ludmila Miller. "I called an ambulance, but it couldn't get to our building. The driver called repeatedly, drove around the area, and in the end we had to carry my husband ourselves, which required a lot of effort. He suffered from a blood pressure of over 200 and needed immediate transfer to the emergency room."
A doctor who was invited the next day was also very delayed due to the difficulty of getting to the apartment. "The doctor asked me to inform the hotline that there is no access to our building. We suffer a lot and feel trapped," concludes Ludmila sadly.
sending? Not for your building
The case of Ludmila and the other tenants points to the harsh reality in which they live: for example, the stairs that allowed access from the building to the parking lot were removed. "If something falls from the laundry or the window, it takes half an hour just to get down and make a turn," says neighbor Miri Doron. She also describes a situation that made everyday life almost impossible. "There are no deliveries to our building from the marketing chains. I live alone, and if I want to order a delivery, I am specifically told that they do not come to my building. What, am I under punishment? If I buy groceries, I have to stop with my car in front of the entrance, unload quickly while cars are honking at me , and sometimes jumping over the concrete fence just doesn't make sense.
Missing the bus, crossing dangerous roads
In addition, Melina fired at a container that was placed at the entrance to the building, instead of being placed at the edge of the sidewalk, as was the case in the past. "You can't go on like this," she adds painfully. "The road is empty, the work is finished, and it is impossible for us to close this part of the street. It is difficult for us to cross, we are putting ourselves at risk, and many times it happens that I miss the bus because of this." Miri sums up her words literally with a plea: "Give us back the life we had."
Real life danger
The residents of the area, who rely on traveling by bus, suffer from the fact that access to the bus stops is a real danger to life. The residents are forced to cross dangerous roads and complain that they often fail to arrive in time to catch the bus. According to them, their repeated appeals to the municipality remain unanswered. "We're not asking for much," say Miller and Doron. "Just to give us back the life we had. The stairs, the approach and the solutions that simply allowed us to live in a normal way. As it is now, the feeling is that we are in punishment."

The Haifa Municipality informed Haifa: "The municipality of Haifa is in the final stages of the restoration of the wall that supports the Yad Lamini road. In this framework, the section of the road on the upper level of the street will be upgraded and renewed in the first quarter of 2025. In the meantime, the works to restore the staircases will begin within the next month."
You are absolutely right, it requires consideration and improvement for the benefit of the tenants immediately, including the return of the stairs that were...
..
How many years does it take to renovate this thing, it smells like corruption, someone is making a fortune here, must be checked by the state police!
And to be precise: in correct Hebrew homeless people are called street dwellers and not street dwellers
Detached mayors who are full
Chachela by any chance?
428 road deaths. 1200 injured pedestrians
in one year
Because of reactions and conduct below any criticism like that of the Haifa municipality
Disgusting mayor, take care of this immediately!!!! Even as a daily traveler on this miserable road, it pains me to see how they have distorted the street and put it almost out of use. Mayor Yahav... put an end to this terrible farce!!!!!!@
A year and a half to build a wall!!!
The collapsed wall is in no way related to the building. A road and a sidewalk pass between the collapsed wall and the adjacent building.
Does the wall that collapsed belong publicly to the municipality of Haifa or does it belong to a purely residential building? Because if private belongs to the tenants in the building to the financier, not to the municipality.
What is the truth here? Does anyone know please?
The wall that separates the building from the road is a public area and not part of the building. There is no debate about this between the municipality and the residents of the building and nothing justifies a year and a half delay in dealing with such a thing.
The wall needs to be restored
If Yona Yahav had lived there, it would have been over six months ago. It's just that transparent people live there 😡
