The municipality of Kiryat Ata celebrated the Sigd holiday of the Ethiopian community
Last week (17-21/11/24) the municipality of Kiryat Ata celebrated the holiday of the Zigd, which is celebrated among Ethiopian Jews, with an activity at the Neve Chen club in the presence of Kais Ephraim Laoi and the members of the Ethiopian community in Kiryat Ata. In addition, the Department for the Advancement of the Status of Women held a women's discourse at the Beit Fisher Museum on the customs of the Eid al-Siggad in the Ethiopian community and the commemoration of the day of the fight against violence against women.
The holiday of the Sigd is a day of fasting for the purpose of purification and renewal, intended to mark the giving of the Torah, the renewal of the covenant between the people and God, and to encourage the preservation of Jewish identity and the commandment of community unity. The municipality of Kiryat Ata annually celebrates the holiday of the mosque in order to mark this special day and allow another audience to be exposed to Ethiopian culture, to strengthen familiarity with history and above all to understand the tremendous contribution of the immigrants to the social fabric of the country.
Happy holidays to the Ethiopian community in honor of the holiday of the mosque. A good and blessed Sheva to all.
