(haipo) - Mobilization for the rescue of Templar documents after the missile hit Beit Keller in Haifa.
Archive for Templar documents and research center
Beit Keller is a historical remnant of the Templar mansion in the center of Carmel, which is currently used by the Gottlieb Schumacher Institute headed by Yossi Ben Artzi, as an archive for Templar documents and as a research center. the western building and heavy damage to the windows, which left the unique documents and books exposed to the rain expected to arrive in the evening.

A call for help that went viral
Dr. Lilach Barak, director of academic development and training at the institute, published this morning (Sunday, 17/11/24) a post on Facebook that quickly became viral and following which dozens of volunteers arrived, including students from the University of Haifa and the Technion and residents from the nearby neighborhoods, to pack the documents and books and move them to a protected place until the beginning of the rehabilitation.
"We are in a race against time to save these precious historical materials," says Dr. Barak in a conversation with Chai Pa. "The building belongs to two bodies - the Gottlieb Schumacher Institute for the Study of Christian Movements in the Land of Israel in the New Testament and the Reuven Hecht Chair of Zionism. Only recently We were going to resume the activity there with lectures, activities, and even a work space (WE WORK) for researchers, but the damage destroyed the cards."

Great destruction, quick response
The damage to the structure caused significant damage: the ceiling in the western part collapsed, the windows were shattered, and the unique archive was exposed to the risk of moisture. "I published a personal post, and within a few hours dozens of volunteers arrived - students, researchers and residents. It is very exciting to see the amazing mobilization," Barak added.

The road to restoration and preservation
All documents and books will be transferred to the University of Haifa, where they will be stored in a protected building until the completion of the restoration and conservation work at Beit Keller. Dr. Barak concluded: "We will work with all our might to restore the place and return it to activity, but first of all, the urgent task is to protect the treasures of historical knowledge from further damage."
Beit Keller, which carries with it a rich cultural history, is evidence of the activity of the Templar movement in the Land of Israel. Despite the severe damage, the community spirit that arose around him emphasizes the importance of protecting our historical heritage.

It's good that you were able to recruit volunteers and most importantly preserve documents.

I thought it was in memory of the special and amazing Helen Keller!!!
Sad to hear
The worst damage to the historical materials is by the Haifa municipality which only cuts budgets for culture instead of realizing that they have tremendous value for culture, the economy, tourism and the image of the city
Antiquities that are located in the place of a museum there is complete neglect of the beautiful mosaics
These just let them crumble like that.
For example, the city archive is handled in a very negligent manner, even though the city auditor has already commented on the difficult situation there and there is decades of neglect, every time they just think of how to cut and cut more and more
For example, the Mana Katz Museum and the Mintz Library have been closed for several years, do you really think that there are no budgets to renovate them or that this mayor simply doesn't care.
For example, the Rotenberg House that was donated to youth activities and turned into an office rental center for companies contrary to its purpose
For example, the City Hall, a building that has the possibility of being a cultural hub, will bring the clubs back to glory
Severe damage to the center of Carmel and the historical sites. Hope they save all the historical material and restore the building soon
