New appointments at Gordon Academy

The school year opened at the Gordon Academy for Education on Sunday 10/11/24. Thousands of students, veterans and newcomers alike, have continued or begun their studies in a variety of bachelor's, master's, preparatory and academic retraining programs. Also this year, the students will benefit from professional programs, leading lecturers in their field and advanced teaching methods while integrating diverse technologies. In the shadow of the war in the north, and out of concern for the safety of the students, the college management chose to open the year in a distance learning format (with the exception of special meetings). Every few days a situation is assessed. The students will return to the innovative campus as soon as the security situation allows it.

New appointments for the start of the school year

As every year, before the start of the school year, the college management announced new appointments and at the same time cherishes the faculty members who are finishing their term and thanks them for their contribution to the success of the college and Lumidia.

And these are the new appointments:

Head of the Early Childhood Education Department: Prof. Shay Rodin

Prof. Shay Rudin, researcher of children's literature, has been teaching at Gordon Academy since 2012. He directed the Levin Kipnis Center for Children's Literature, deals with the emotional and ideological aspects of children's literature; Works to deepen the connection between children and books through the assimilation of children's books in the educational work in kindergartens and classrooms. Founded the journal 'Childhood: Review and Research in Children's Literature', publishes literature reviews in the daily press. Replaces Dr. Fani Elzare in his position.

Head of the Department of Sciences: Dr. Shaoli Sofi

Graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's and third degree in science and technology education. For about a decade and a half she taught science and biology in schools. For the past decade, a teacher and instructor in education for the hard of hearing and deaf in the North District. For the past five years, in parallel with her work with students, she has been a lecturer in the science department at Gordon Academy. Enjoys researching in the field of science teaching, science communication, climate education and special education. Replaces Dr. Anat Stoler-Katz in her position.

Head of the Communication Department: Dr. Ornet Torin

Ornet Torin is a senior lecturer at the college and a research fellow at the Hadassah Institute at Brandeis. Her field of expertise is media literacy education and gender representation. A member of the audit committee of the Israel Communications Association, the cultural steering committee of the Haifa municipality, a social activist in women's and peace organizations. Replaces Dr. Hadas Shelley Huber in her position.

Head of the Department of Literature: Dr. Yair Koren-Maymon

Senior researcher and lecturer at the college. His main research areas are: literature and its teaching in a multidisciplinary approach, psychology, gender and cinema. Author of the book "Therapist-Patient Relationships in the Works of Shmuel Yosef Agnon (Resling, 2015) and co-editor of the book "Representations: Reality, Imitation and Imagination - Critical Studies" (with Israel Prize Bride, Prof. Nitza Ben-Dov, M.O.F.T. Institute, 2020). His research has been published in leading journals and presented at international conferences in Israel and abroad. He held a variety of positions in the field of literature in schools. For 12 years, he was a district instructor for the teaching of literature in the Ministry of Education and was also a member of a professional committee in the ministry, whose role is to advise the pedagogical secretariat in delineating the policy for teaching the field of literature in the education system. Replaces Dr. Ronit Sheeran in his position.

Head of the Department for Guidance, Guidance and Learning in the master's degree: Dr. Mirit Sharon

Dr. Mirit Sharon is a senior lecturer at the college. She was a soldier teacher in the 'Rapool Boys' project in the Education Corps, an educator and coordinator of social education in an elementary school for 25 years. She has a bachelor's degree in creative arts and educational counseling, a master's degree in educational counseling and a third degree in teaching, learning and guidance - from the Faculty of Education at the University of Haifa. She started her career at the Gordon Academy 14 years ago - and held positions in between Pedagogical instructor, coordinator of a practical training program in the "Amit Academy" model. Her areas of research and teaching are in education and training; good citizenship, emotional learning, and interpersonal communication Prof. Ditza Meschit.

Head of the Department of Integrated Education in the Master's Degree: Dr. Ronan Kaspersky

Senior lecturer at Gordon Academy. Mainly deals with topics related to the connection between emotion and learning. At the beginning of his career, he was extensively involved in researching the interaction between emotion and learning among students with learning disabilities. In recent years, he turned to researching the relationship between emotion and learning in the field of teacher training, including simulations as a tool for cultivating social-emotional skills (SES). In this area, he was awarded a research grant from the Mofat Institute for the development of a social-emotional learning questionnaire for teachers. The questionnaire, called EduSEL, has gained worldwide recognition and has been translated into English, Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese. Replaces Dr. Esther Firestetter.

Dean of Students: Dr. Fani Elzare

Dr. Fani Elzareh, dean of students, has 33 years of experience in education in a variety of guidance and teaching positions. For the past three years, she served as the head of the early childhood education department, which also includes an extension to special education and an extension to grades XNUMX-XNUMX. Lecturer and facilitator of workshops for training academics for teaching in the garden
Her field of research is the image of the kindergarten profession in Israeli society and she sees a mission in tailored and high-quality training and in promoting the status of the educator in Israel. Replaces Dr. Merev Madmoni-Azolai in her position.

Head of the Center for the Promotion of Teaching Quality: Dr. Osnat Broshi Chen

Dr. Osnat Brushi-Chen, head of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Quality, is a lecturer in the Department of Management and in the Department of Guidance, Guidance and Learning in the master's degree. Multidisciplinary researcher on creativity and innovation in management, leadership and crisis management, resilience and extremism. Consultant and lecturer in management and leadership, business development and marketing. Accompanying senior executives and managers in the development of soft and human management skills in the era of machine thinking (AI) from a non-conventional point of view replaces Dr. Yossi Bar.

Head of the Continuing Studies Unit: Sarit Gorli Lineker

She has 30 years of experience in the education system in a variety of roles. In recent years, she has been a national instructor in the Department of Entry into Teaching at the Ministry of Education, leads teaching workshops, is a pedagogical instructor in the Department of Special Education, and manages the entry into teaching unit at Gordon Academic College. As part of this position, she led new initiatives in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and local authorities, in order to provide support and an optimal environment for kindergarteners and teachers in their first years in the education system.
