(Hai Fe) - Why does the Haifa Municipality not respond to the request of a resident who has applied more than once to correct signage with incorrect information on the grounds that it harms the understanding of the local history of Haifa and thus distorts the historical truth for the sake of future generations?
A resident of Haifa (his name is withheld in the system) who for 30 years held senior positions in the public service, explains to Hai Fe that according to his memory and personal experience, the donkey path was not part of the Gedera steps but began on Hesavionim Street and went down towards the Baha'i Garden, known as the "Persian Garden" among the locals in the 50s. According to him, the municipality's insistence on leaving the wrong information on the sign hurts the understanding of Haifa's local history and distorts the historical truth for the sake of future generations.
In the initial response of the Haifa municipality to the resident's request, the municipality stated that the inscription on the sign was confirmed after an examination by "additional researchers in the city's history". However, he doubts this answer, and wonders if a comprehensive examination was actually done or if it was an answer given to keep him away from the subject. "I'm afraid that the sign was not really examined by serious researchers, but that the answer was written simply to wave me politely."
In addition, he suggested that instead of leaving the incorrect information, the municipality would place a new sign on Hesavioni Street with correct details about the donkey trail. In this way, according to him, history can be authentically preserved and the local memory respected, which was part of the experiences of many generations of Haifa residents.
He even proposed another solution, which includes an addition to the existing sign that would explain that the donkey trail actually began on Hesavioni Street, while maintaining the respect of the historical heritage and accuracy.
The resident hopes that the dictation in Hai Pa will lead to change, and emphasizes: "Unfortunately, in recent years, I have witnessed an increase in the number of 'donkeys' in the public service - hence the leaving of the donkey statue at the corner of the Gedera stairs and Yaffe Nof Street as a sign of respect for all those responsible for preserving this 'heritage'."
The Haifa Municipality informed Haifa: "The request was forwarded to the Chairman of the Municipal Names Committee, Professor Yassi Ben Artzi, who will respond to the requester personally."
At least they changed the sign of the inventor of the bilharzia...
It is known that the municipality of Haifa has many donkeys.
The donkey trail did start on Hesavion Street. I walked it as a child. He walked diagonally through the olive trees in the general direction of the Bahá'í Garden.
Moshe Dayan said only Hamor does not change his mind
Because it's a sign of donkeys can't change 🫏🫏
Give respect to donkeys who work hard, don't complain, leave the sign for respect🫏🫏
At least they changed the sign of the inventor of the bilharzia...
The donkey trail was in the area of the Hillel scouts, which today is in the Baha'i Garden, and went up towards Panorama/Dan Carmel Hotel. I was then in Leo Beck and Scouts about 60 years ago. We used to go up the Gedera stairs from Hadar, Sof Balfour, to the dances at the Rothschild House. Not related to the donkey trail.
There is a new donkey trail from Shukri warehouse to Dania
And why does Blitenthal have a street that is 2 km long. And all the Nobel laureates have only one block together
