Serious vandalism in a public shelter in Kiryat Haim: boys caused heavy damage and started a fire
(Hai Pa) - Yesterday (Saturday, 09/11/24) the municipal hotline of the municipality of Haifa received a request regarding acts of vandalism and arson in a public shelter in Kiryat Haim. The Municipal Enforcement Division team was immediately called to the scene and found several boys there, who were in the shelter at the time of the incident. The team's inspection revealed that the shelter was heavily damaged - the chairs and benches were broken and burned, the firefighting equipment was completely destroyed, and all the equipment the shelter contained was destroyed.
The team detained the boys until the police arrived, and the representatives of the municipality filed a complaint on the matter. In response to the case, the municipality decided that all the shelters in the area will be locked, and will be opened automatically only during an alarm, in order to prevent the recurrence of similar cases.
The Municipality of Haifa appeals to the residents to maintain the cleanliness and order in the public shelters and to report to the municipal hotline any case of suspected damage to the facilities. Ohad Dorfman, head of the operations administration at the Haifa municipality, said: "This is a serious act that damages public property and directly affects the safety of the residents. We expect the community to show responsibility and report to the municipal hotline in similar cases, so that we can act quickly to maintain order and safety."
