Progress in the 'Defender of the North' program: The Ministry of Defense and the Home Front Command have begun carrying out protection works and establishing security components in settlements near the border in the north, to the extent of approximately NIS 130 million.
Protection of about 150 public and educational institutions and more than 200 institutionally protected spaces
The works approved by the Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Major General (Res.) Eyal Zamir, are being carried out by the Engineering and Construction Division, and they include the protection of about 150 public and educational institutions and more than 200 Institutional Protected Areas (IPAs), in the areas of the Galil regional and local councils Upper, Marom HaGalil, Meta Asher, Nahariya and a restaurant. During the coming month, six sheltered kindergartens will be delivered, three of them in the settlement of Amir and three more in the settlement of Sde Nehemiah, which will allow for the immediate settlement of the children of the kindergartens.
Promotion of the various security components
Along with the protection works, the Engineering and Construction Division, the Settlement Unit, the Home Front Command and the Northern Command are working to advance the various security elements, in the settlements in the Upper Galilee, Horfish, Ma'ale Yosef, Pasuta, Gush Halab, Marom HaGalil and other settlements to the extent of tens of millions of NIS.
At the same time, the work teams in the wing have completed the planning work and are ready to enter for implementation in other settlements, among them: Neot Mordechai, Sde Nehemiah, Kfar Blum and Gonen.
"The Shield of the North"
The "Northern Defense" Directorate in the Ministry of Defense is currently building 261 private MMDs in settlements 0-1 km from the Lebanese border. These works are added to hundreds of additional MDMs whose work was completed before and during the war. Despite the risk in the field, the works are carried out in accordance with the instructions of the Northern Command and the Home Front Command, including in combat zones. This is with the aim of strengthening the defense in the settlements near the border.
In addition, tens of millions of shekels were transferred from the Home Front Command to the local authorities in order to implement the security components program and to add protected spaces in educational institutions.
There they invest NIS 130 million to protect public buildings and in Haifa there are outdated schools from the 60s without proper shelters, there are neighborhoods of thousands of residents without shelters...
Where is the investment here? A concentration of hundreds of thousands of people doesn't deserve protection? Why don't missiles fall in Haifa and Kiryat? Are there no public buildings here that urgently need additional protection?!
