Random discovery at sea • One-off photographs of magical nature

During nature photography, surprising discoveries are often made that defeat our expectations. In many cases, when we return from the field, an unexpected surprise awaits us in the photos - a living creature that we did not notice at the time of photography.

Places and discoveries

The photographs are taken in a variety of spectacular locations: the beaches of Haifa, the Kishon River, winter puddles, and Kurkar reefs. Each of these areas offers unique and often rare natural phenomena. Photographers experience nature through the camera lens, and each photograph can be the product of many years of research and investment. However, the random discovery of a magnificent creature can be a once-in-a-lifetime moment—and there's something magical about it.

Last Spring: The Return of the Octopuses

The spring of 2024 was a fruitful period for photographers, with the return of hundreds of octopuses to the shores of Israel. In focused work, photographers found up to six octopuses every ten meters, thanks to the quantities of food available to them. Photographing the octopuses in different conditions is a unique experience, as these are intelligent animals that display fascinating behaviors, such as changing color and moving arms.

unique phenomena

While natural phenomena such as the courtship of the apothecary squid may seem like a routine matter, they actually provide rare and magical moments. These phenomena are not always explained, and often require a lot of patience to document them.

challenges and expectations

The challenges in underwater photography are many: the weather, the distances and the need for repeated dives to get the perfect picture. Each photograph requires not only skill, but also a deep understanding of nature.

In conclusion,

The random discoveries that occur in the field remind us of the magic of nature. Every visit to Haifa's beaches or other waterways can yield new insights and connect us to the mysterious and spectacular world below the surface. Another layer to this charm is the understanding that nature is always in stimulation, and there is always something to discover - you just have to be alert to it.

  1. Dear Muti! You always beach us to another layer of beauty which is found in the depths of the sea! Fascinating article on the day and spectacular photographs! You can't stop looking at them

  2. Very impressive. As a native of Haifa, I remember the spectacular dives of a sea rich in fish, a sea of rocks and various varieties of fish. Nostalgic pictures from other seas. The proliferation of uncontrolled fishing, and the lack of supervision, gave fishermen and divers a space of activity that left barren beaches!
Hopefully these photos are indicative of a restoration trend.

    • Good Morning
And mainly trawlers who scoured the sediment and simply destroyed many habitats...but everything is coming back now.
Have a good week and thank you

  3. Dear Moti
All this magic would have disappeared from my eyes if it weren't for you.
In every article you are swept away to magical and rare places.
It's chilling to know how much beauty there is down there.
    Thank you Muti💟

    • Nature is amazing and surprises happen not only in the water. It's a shame that National Geographic started "directing" nature. Kudos to the photographers who maintain authenticity.
