Environmental failure in the heart of Haifa • The entrance to the central neighborhood is neglected

(Hai Fe) - In the Bat Galim neighborhood in Haifa, one of the central neighborhoods in the city, a state of neglect and lack of environmental care was recorded at the main entrance. The neighborhood serves as a transit point for thousands of visitors every day - whether they are local residents, Rambam Hospital employees, patients and visitors arriving at one of the main hospitals in the country, or workers and visitors at the Haifa port and the nearby naval base.

But despite all this, the entrance to the neighborhood tells a completely different story: dry and dead grass, scattered garbage and a general appearance of neglect that is not appropriate for such a central area of the city of Haifa.

Every day, hundreds and thousands of people enter the Bat Galim neighborhood - a center of employment and services in the north of the country - but already at the entrance they encounter sights of dirt, dead grass and signs of lack of care. This is not only an environmental hazard but a visual hazard at the entrance to one of the most important neighborhoods in the city, which is the gateway to the largest hospital in the north, the port of Haifa and the naval base.

The entry in better days

You can see the difference when everything was green and growing and today is dry

Residents of the area and visitors to the Rambam Hospital point out that the situation affects the first impression they get of the place, an impression that affects the feelings of the residents and visitors to the city itself. "This shows that it borders on neglect and disrespect for the most central neighborhood in the city," said a long-time resident, adding, "This situation cannot to continue like this".

About a week ago, we appealed to the Haifa Municipality to understand the reason for the neglect. The municipality stated that the dirt is mainly due to the winds and that there are attempts to keep the area clean on an ongoing basis. However, even on Monday 31/10/24 the situation remained the same - and the entrance to the neighborhood is still full of dirt and dead grass, which makes the entire area uninviting and unpleasant.

Yuval Busin - chairman of the Bat Galim neighborhood committee (photo - self)

The chairman of the Bat Galim committee, Yuval Busin, said to Lahi Pa:

The whole neighborhood looks neglected and not taken care of, and it's not just at the entrance. Representatives from the municipality promised us that a mechanical sweeper would arrive three times a week, but in reality there are only two poor cleaning workers who are responsible for the entire neighborhood - there is no way they can handle it. In the past, there was a responsible person here who took care of thorough cleaning - he cleaned, polished and washed the streets, so much so that many residents sent the municipality letters of thanks for his work. But unfortunately, following the praise, it was decided to move it to another neighborhood. It seems that every time someone here does a good job, they get transferred somewhere else. Now we have someone who only takes care of pruning. In short, the neighborhood depends on the first rain that will come and clean the sidewalks, streets and the neighborhood itself.

  1. It is not understood what the problem is for the municipality to take care of the cleanliness of the old and central neighborhoods of the city. ..in terms of aesthetics in Haifa and Israel aspires to...zero. !!!

  2. Bat Galim has been neglected for years.
There is no environmental care, no enforcement of cleanliness.
A neglected neighborhood not only at the entrance to the neighborhood

  3. disgust A disgrace to the municipality that this is what a central neighborhood in Haifa looks like. A shabby and tired city!

  4. The Hadar neighborhood is also very neglected. There is not a single worthy public garden except Binyamin Garden which is next to the municipal theater.

  5. A spotlight is directed here and ignored there so as not to see the darkness elsewhere, the problem is that there is no owner.

  6. After so many complaints to the municipal center about garbage and bins that the municipality does not bother to remove, a strong suspicion arose that this is a deliberate policy - Yahav turned Haifa into a dump. The city looks like his face.

  7. Haifa is a recognizable Israeli symbol - a mock splendor, compared to a conspicuous public neglect compared to the celebrations of those with wealth in the beginning and the rich who get rich from building on mountain slopes covered with natural vegetation and a home for animals looking for pieces of nature that are sometimes burned. Sites that I knew in my childhood such as the Mayan head and old quarries that were excavated in caves under which have disappeared to the point that it is difficult to prove to those who remember that they are not dreaming but missing them as an old symbol. Along the Rupin road, which has become a busy road, in the Hadar HaCarmel neighborhood, the luxurious Sammania have been replaced by peeling houses, which today go between old houses, where a poor population receives shabby and neglected apartments, where events take place that are not respectable to say the least. In the eyes of a native of Haifa, the amount of contrasts in this unfortunate town constitute a negative example for important cities in the Mediterranean basin, which knew that those among them and the investors in them would give them a respectable tone of adaptation to the reality of these days.

  8. The whole city is like that
They don't clean even in the level of the Tishbiti...
God knows where the property tax money goes
But it's not for cleaning or restoring roads.
    Yona Yahav is a failure!!!

  9. Yuval Busin is a charming man who does everything for the neighborhood and he probably shouldn't be picking up trash bags Yuval Ani Hanita Jagger from the program Zvika Pelag's Sixties Club How are you?

  10. You have a mistake in the date 31.10, it was not on Wednesday, it was yesterday
Where are the times when I could sit on a bench and watch the sea when everything was green around, the cable car was running, the restaurant was crowded with people today, everything seems to be frozen in time like the whole of Haifa and now the spirits are being blamed? Damn this is an annoying and frustrating omission!!!

  11. Lipa, from a clean and beautiful city, has undergone a negative transformation over the years, neglect and inclusion in every corner, houses tending to fall down, just to see the shops in Barach Herzl and Halutz, shame and disgrace. The market is filthy, Bat Galim is neglected, unfortunately there is no good disease. Corrupt people run it and only care about their inflated jobs. Our tiredness has no future either in Haifa or in the country. Israel's Ukrainian government. Everything stinks.

    • True.. Haifa needs to undergo a makeover.. and who will do it? pigeon?????? no chance

  12. It's not just Bat Galim. All of Haifa looks like Jenin. There is an old mayor there who is no longer capable of anything except for self-promotion…… me and me and me. More than zero!

  13. Just pointing out that there is nothing "environmental" here, visually sanitary according to what I read in the article.

    • Unfortunately, the whole city of Haifa is dirty, neglected and looks horrible...even in the most expensive neighborhood in the city...Dania...the streets are filthy...garbage and dirt all over the sidewalks and roads is simply disgusting!! Even when you call the municipality to complain, nothing helps... I don't remember the last time I saw the municipality workers cleaning Dania Street in the neighborhood... the most expensive property tax in the country... not to mention washing the dirt that the pigs leave behind when they empty the trash cans... the stains and the stench... it's really sad to see That no official in the municipality cares that this is what the city looks like!!

  14. It is important to note that this is the entrance for vehicle owners. The pedestrian entrance from the direction of the train and metro station is less neglected than that

  15. I lived for about months in Bat Galim somewhere else
In this country she should have been a resident to put on makeup Old houses on the beach Old homeless people are littering the place with bottles in the trash everywhere If there were inspectors everything is fine She was once a wave girl on the beach She is glorious The trash got mixed up If people are right There is a new construction The tenants care about themselves There is a coffee shop Not something you can find there Food for the poor There are a lot of poor people in Bat Galim
Homeless people find shelter in Bat Galim in the grass in the sea The days are not easy War Rambam Hospital Shelter for criminals
At night they come as if to the emergency room, photographing the wounded and the landing of the helicopters
Nice one hour before to deal with the matter I'm sure the mayor head of the committee dealing with the issue of a quiet evening

  16. Neve Shanan, the largest neighborhood in Haifa is filthy. Sidewalks, roads, roadsides. A neighborhood that looks like a third world neighborhood. I applied several times. shame.

  17. I mean, instead of Busin organizing the residents of the neighborhood for a cleanliness watch and picking up how many bags, he just takes pictures and sends them to the locals??
When did we stop taking responsibility for the environment and we just take videos and write complaints?!

    • Yael rrrr,
We pay a very high monthly property tax in Haifa, an amount that elsewhere covers several months of property tax.
It is the municipality's job to clean up and not really the job of the residents to become a neighborhood watch. There are people that this is their livelihood and there is a municipality that this is their responsibility.
Do you get up every day and go clean your neighborhood? I highly doubt it.
And if you have finished cleaning your neighborhood, you are welcome to continue doing so in Bat Galim. Handsome demands handsome fulfills.
And what will the municipal employees do? Will he keep digging?
On top of the two cleaning workers here, there are a number of managers who drive around with their cars and don't even bother to get out of the car, and they have no idea what's going on in the neighborhood.
Regarding sending Busin to go and collect bags, does he work for you? What is this audacity?
It is the job of a volunteer committee to complain about the neglect, and if the municipality ignores it, the whole world will know who this municipality is and what the management level of this municipality is. The residents of Haifa get better municipal employees.

    • Another municipal employee pretends to be a responder, go out to Mishbir, you forgot your perfume...singing moose bags...maybe you want a letter of appreciation to be sent to Jonah for your performance in the municipality like all the parasites there?

    • Most of the neighborhoods in Haifa have been neglected since Kalish was the mayor, she neglected the whole city in style and cleanliness and there are new residents who are dirtying the city and not cleaning it

  18. All the paths that lead from the train to the Rambam Hospital and to the medical campus, which are Haifa's calling card for visitors to the medical institution, are neglected, dirty, full of stray cats, the paths are cracked and full of holes, and during the winter they are also flooded with water and impassable.
When will they invest a little in these crossings in order to present a beautiful Haifa to all the residents of the north?

    • Are you a crybaby, does a Bamba bag on the floor bother you? Is it hard for you to lift? Must whine about it??

  19. CUT & PASTE to the cleaning situation in almost the entire city.
The entrance to Carmelia is also filthy, blocked by traffic offenders who only leave the vehicle for a second to buy something in the businesses that welcome those who come to it. Streets that haven't been cleaned in years!!! The sidewalks are blocked by vehicles, construction debris or just by people who don't care about anything but themselves...
And of course the property tax is in the sky.
The fault is ours. unequivocally. We are the suckers who fund it unfortunately. And the system takes advantage of the fact that the times are times of war and not all of us are free to take care of such "trifles".

    • Even in an estate full of filth next to all the sidewalks under the cars and the sidewalks smell of garbage

    • Michal, wait, Yael will be right back. The hard worker and great consultant comes to collect your garbage.

    • Bat Galim was deliberately neglected to open the way for entrepreneurs. with the aim of cheapening the properties and driving away old home owners. Now that houses in the neighborhood have become expensive - the municipality links the distribution of licenses for greedy construction with the cleanliness and cultivation of the neighborhood while it deliberately refrains from granting basic resident rights of protection and minimal policing against drug addicts and street criminals. This is a misrepresentation that should obscure the fact that a municipality allows developers to run riot for the sake of money and build cheap and dense construction while invading and destroying the public space and blocking the views.
