(haipo) - Shay Moyal (38) thought he could rest from the alarms in his apartment in Kiryat Bialik and spend a relatively calm weekend in a friend's apartment in Kiryat Ata. On Saturday, 19/10/2024, the building next to the friend's apartment was hit by a direct hit, and Moyel was slightly injured on his way to the shelter. Despite the injury, all he was interested in was what happened to his dog, which during the impact ran away from his hands and out of the building.
Direct damage to the adjacent building
"Three months ago I moved into an apartment in Kiryat Bialik," says Moyal. "I moved from Haifa to Kiryat Bialik. Last Friday-Saturday I decided to take a break, because we have direct hits and a lot of alarms. I was at a friend's house in Kiryat Ata. I woke up in the morning to the alarms that started at 3 am. Then, at the alarm at 7:10, there was Heavy barrage on Kiryat Ata. My friend and I wanted to leave the house with the dog, but we couldn't, because there was a direct hit to the adjacent building.
I thought the 10:30 volley would be like the morning volleys, but suddenly the page was very strong. The power affected our building, and my friend and I were thrown. I hit the neighbor's door and got hit in the head, back and neck. At the same time I continued to hold my dog. As I lay on the floor and the dog went wild, there was another alarm. While in pain I grabbed the dog. We had to go down another half floor, but I slipped with the dog, I was hurt in the head and neck, and from the force of the fall the dog ran away."
"I begged them to find the dog"
"My injury didn't concern me, I ran towards the exit of the building to look for the dog," continues Moyal. "At that moment, there was another hit in the same building that was hit a few minutes ago. The adjacent building caught fire, and cars started burning. There were fragments of an interception and mass hysteria. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the dog. They tried to take me to the emergency room because my tests were not normal, but at first I refused To evacuate - I didn't care about anything, just the dog. I ran into the shelters. Everything got mixed up in my eyes and I almost passed out, and I turned to the hospital, but I didn't stop thinking about the dog.
They put me in an intensive care unit, and wanted to see if my metrics were improving. In the hospital, with medication and tests, I put up a post begging them to find the dog. In the evening I was still at the hospital, a blur, with my family, and I was only interested in the dog. I was released from the hospital, and together with my family we went to Kiryat Ata to look for Tyson. And indeed, at 22:30 p.m. I received a phone call that the dog was with a family. Many residents of Kiryat Ata helped me in the search."
How long have you had the dog?
"The dog Tyson has been with me for a year. He came to me from the north, and I am very close to him. I have an injury to my left shoulder and lower back, but still, on Saturday evening I was released from the hospital and we began to make rounds in Kriya to find the dog. In the end, Tyson was found a few buildings Near where I was, he entered the yard of a family, who saw my post on Facebook and contacted me."
Did you have dogs before Tyson?
"I've always had dogs. We're a house that loves dogs. Even if I see an injured dog, I take care of it. I just can't be indifferent to it."
How was the meeting with the dog?
"It was a very exciting meeting. Right now, because my friend's house was damaged, he came from Kiryat Ata to live with me. I feel like my soul is shattered. We continue to be in a state of range and face incessant alarms. One of my problems is that in the building where I live I don't have a shelter. At every alarm, I just raise my head to the sky. During the alarms I think about the dog, it is more important to me than my life. We're going down half a floor, and if there's a direct hit or interception fragments, I don't know what will happen, because there's glass in the stairwell that could shatter on us".
Have you considered moving to another area for a short period of time?
"It is very difficult for me to live in my apartment knowing that there is nowhere to run when there are alarms. My situation following what happened is very difficult. I am seriously considering moving to my mother in Haifa, also because of the condition of the dog, who goes into hysteria with alarms and convulsions. It is a terrible feeling for me to move from house to house every Once. I still think about what happened, and the power of the direct hit is simply not captured. Half of my body is very weak from the injury, but I don't want to feel that I left the house, because for me to evacuate is to show the other side that he defeated me."
What do you think should be done next?
"My personal feelings are very difficult. I don't know who to worry about first: my health, my dog or my mother. But I and the residents give full support to the soldiers, and hope very much that they will not be arrested. We will face the loss of property and vehicles, but the IDF forces need to know that we We pray for their health and safety and want them to continue to fight as much as necessary. And of course, we must not forget the abductees. When I was hit, I was supposed to say that my life passed before my eyes, but at the time of the hit I was thinking about the abductees.
We want the IDF forces not to stop; we will deal with whatever happens, just not the loss of human life. We must not stop this fighting. I strongly support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and am satisfied with him. He promised that he would bring the heads of the most difficult, and he did It changed the reality in the south. It is clear to me that as soon as we pass the difficult days, peace and security will return to the north."
We are in the midst of Sukkot. What would you like to wish for the people of Israel?
"I want to wish all the people of Israel to be strong and put aside the differences between the left and the right. I love my country and I am a Zionist. The critical and important goal is to return the kidnapped people home, and not an unnecessary struggle between the left and the right. My ambition is that we can go back to living in peace, without the left And right, and we will understand that we are Jews and we have no other home."
As someone who cares about animals, do you think they get the care they deserve during this time?
"Despite the difficult situation we are in, it is also important to take care of the souls of the dogs. They bring light and joy to our lives. When we run to the shelter, we also have to remember the safety of the dogs. Recently there has been a crazy abandonment of dogs, and it really hurts me to read about it The associations are full of dogs, and they have already started to kill dogs. Anyone who can come to the association and save even one dog is excellent.
Love for dogs is a deep and pure love that does not depend on anything.
