(haipo) - Parents of children at the "Assif" Kindergarten in the Ramat Hanasi neighborhood in Haifa, tell Lehi Fa that during the last two weeks they are in a state of constant uncertainty when it comes to activities in the Kindergarten. Every evening the parents wait for the announcement, only then will they be able to know if they will be able to send their children to kindergarten the next day, or if they will be forced, within a few hours, to find an alternative for them. All this even before the garden was damaged by the missile attack last Sunday (6/10/24).
"In these two weeks, the educational frameworks opened in Haifa," says a mother of one of the toddlers in the kindergarten. "Initially we received a message that the children would come to kindergarten on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and this without receiving an explanation why the kindergarten is not open every day. Then we received a message at 19:00 in the evening on Sunday 28/9/24 that there is no kindergarten the next day. At 22:00 at night that day, we were informed that the kindergarten would actually open on Monday.
On Monday evening they sent us a message that the kindergarten would not open on Tuesday. Here we actually received an explanation, that we are a host kindergarten, therefore on Tuesday there will be children in the kindergarten who belong to another kindergarten. We were also told that there would be distance learning, but what does distance learning mean for 4-year-old children? (pre-compulsory kindergarten and pre-compulsory kindergarten)
After that, on Wednesday through Friday there was no kindergarten at all, because of the holiday."
"They said we were narrow-minded"
"Last week we were informed that this week the children would be in kindergarten on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday (the week that starts on Sunday, 6/10/24)," says the mother. "We started to resent it, because the other kindergartens in Haifa are working as usual. We contacted the municipality, and one of the mothers was told in response that we are narrow-minded, and that there are kindergartens in Kiryat Eliezer that do not have a protected space and we have to share the kindergarten with them. We were told that we should be satisfied with this, that this week the children were supposed to be 4 days and not 3".
"On Sunday 6/10/24, a rocket hit the kindergarten cluster, especially our kindergarten. We were informed at night that we would not bring the children to kindergarten on Monday. On Monday, they told us that they found an alternative for us for the next day (Tuesday) at Ramot School in Shaprintzak, in one of the classrooms , until the garden is renovated. We were told it was a permanent alternative and we were very pleased.
The children went there on Tuesday and Wednesday, but then the staff realized that it was impossible to drop the children off at the shelter in a minute. Therefore today, Thursday 10/10/2024, the children are at home again.
What bothers us is that when our kindergarten was in order, we hosted children from kindergartens without protected spaces. Now that our structure is damaged, no one is willing to host us. We are currently in even greater uncertainty, when we have no idea what will happen next week. Another thing that bothers us is that one of our cluster kindergartens was at the Ramot school today, so why not us?"
We are hurt in front of our employers, and the children need their routine
"This is a very hard blow for us in terms of workplaces. There are parents who own businesses and cannot be absent. Yesterday, at 17:45 p.m., we were informed that there would be no kindergarten today. How can we organize like this from one day to the next? What are we supposed to tell our employers?
The feeling is that the hand is very light on the trigger when we cancel our kindergarten days. We have a problem, but so do the children. I tell my daughter that there is kindergarten tomorrow and after two hours I get a message that there is actually no kindergarten and I have to disappoint the girl. We are afraid that even if they renovate our kindergarten during the holiday, after the holiday we will return to being a host kindergarten and again there will be days when the children will not have a framework."
"One of the mothers wrote in the morning in the group that she is in contact with the authority, who are looking for alternatives and maybe there will be updates in the evening. What does it help me to have an update in the evening? What about today's work day? The children see the destroyed kindergarten when we pass by it. They need their routine and the support." .
"Until the missiles hit, the garden functioned like all other gardens"
The Haifa Municipality gave a response Because the activity in Asif Garden took place until the missiles fell, as in all the other urban gardens, in accordance with the directives of the Home Front Command. "Immediately with the damage to the kindergarten building, the kindergarten moved to Ramot School. Today (Thursday) the learning takes place according to the procedure, remotely. Meanwhile, the municipality is making every effort to finish the restoration of all the damaged educational buildings in the city (including the kindergarten building in question) by the end of the Sukkot holiday."
