(haipo) - Residents demand from the municipality immediate treatment of hazards along the beach promenades in Haifa.
Haifa's beach promenades attract many residents and visitors from all over the country, who come to enjoy the pastoral coastal views and breathe some air to relax from the anguish of the war. Unfortunately, it turns out that parts of the promenades, and in particular the section of the promenade of Shekmona, suffer from continuous neglect, which causes tripping and injuries among visitors.
The Shekmona promenade section, which is considered one of the most beautiful sections of the coastal strip, includes a thin path overlooking the sea and balconies that allow you to admire the view. But the rails, which were supposed to add grace to the boardwalk, became a serious safety hazard. Many of them are worn, broken and bent, which causes repeated trips by passers-by.
Last Sunday 6/10/24, Sharon Levy, a resident of the city and a fitness trainer, was injured while running on the boardwalk. Sharon says in a conversation with Lahi Pa: "I used to run as a regular routine along the boardwalk, both to keep fit and to release pressure from the difficult time we are experiencing because of the war. While I was running on the tracks, I tripped and injured my hands and feet. My phone also broke in the fall."
Sharon emphasizes that the problem is not limited to the condition of the sidewalks: "There is also a serious problem with the lighting. In some parts of the boardwalk it is difficult to see exactly where there is a hazard, especially in the evening. The path is intended for running and walking, but it is not safe. The path intended for bicycles is actually made of concrete and is Smoother, but the lighting is also poor."
Sharon is still dealing with the injuries and is unable to return to work at full strength. She calls on the municipality to urgently deal with hazards on the boardwalk before such a case ends in an even more serious injury: "It could have ended in a serious fracture or a torn ligament. I hope that the municipality will act quickly and fix the rails and the lighting, so that such cases do not repeat themselves."
The beach promenades are one of the most important assets of the city of Haifa, but as can be seen from this case, the poor maintenance causes harm to the users and creates a tangible danger to the public.
Haifa Municipality gave a response to Haifa:
"The inspection of the decks and their maintenance is done on a regular basis while dealing with increased wear and tear in a complex marine environment. Also yesterday (Wednesday 9/10/24) work was done to remove hazards. The Haifa Municipality is in the midst of a planning procedure for the general rehabilitation of the deck surfaces which will also include accessibility improvements on the Shekmona promenade As part of the works, which have already been approved, this week 16 light poles were removed from the Maksim tunnel and new light poles were installed in their place, including lighting directed towards the walkway. Claims for damages arising from hazards can be directed to the municipal insurance department.
Have you seen the electricity poles along the boardwalk????
wanted to save….
They put posts made of non-galvanized metal
First line to the sea - the metal is eaten quickly
The winter winds are crazy here.
They will knock down the columns
The next disaster is on the way!!!!!!
The municipality must replace the parts of the columns with galvanized parts and immediately!!!!
Create a solar system - why connect to electricity?
Why are the people in charge of the issues not advancing with new technologies????
Why are there no public toilets along the boardwalk?
Totally agree with the omission. A result of the terrible term of the previous mayor.
Mr. Yahav take this city to where it was 5 years ago. And thank you for moving many in the country for the promise... until this morning there will be no trace of the missile that fell. And indeed it happened
Hello gentlemen, you have drifted a bit too much.
There was a mayor for the glory of the State of Israel who destroyed every beautiful corner of the city. Hated the residents and did everything so that everyone would remember how bad she was.
It's so stupid to put wooden slats near a beach. Who is the planner who doesn't think about practice? By the way, there is no aesthetic justification for this either.
Instead of fixing and fixing and wasting the residents' money, replace with what is suitable
There are boards that are resistant to moisture and sea water, of course this requires maintenance, and all over the world there are wooden boardwalks. The ships used to be made of wood too, so it's not evil. It's all a matter of maintenance.
The boardwalk has been in a horrible state for a long time. The slats are broken, the railings are rusty. It is a real shame that there is no regular maintenance
That's right, a wooden deck doesn't fit, on the boardwalk!!!
Therefore, everything must be replaced with beautiful flooring, with patterns, flooring that will last for years
I contacted the town several times regarding the neglect of the screeds - protruding and sunken panels and screws protruding from the surface - a real danger to walkers and especially runners -
They said they would take care of it - still waiting
All the iron railings are also full of rust, really incomprehensible neglect that doesn't happen in other cities in Israel...-sad
I was just there to breathe clean air. The beach was empty and suddenly I saw a woman about 50 years old lying naked and exposing her body to the rays of the hot sun, a cheap and disgusting tan like her. I didn't notice her as there were two fishing men.
What was its state of maintenance?
Why do the kebele workers employed by the municipality look like 14-15 year old minors?!
The municipality encourages dropping out of schools - maybe bring in serious contractors and not nepotism and cronyism?!
Even a walking surface for pedestrians, this wretched municipality does not know how to maintain...
Indeed, the boardwalk is very neglected.
Unsightly and unsafe.
The special vegetation is also not well maintained
As if it was unexpected. And also the wooden railings that were erected on the Goral Promenade are visible on the face and break easily, who is the idiot who approved this?
I injured my knee from this clamp from a fall, I won't get there until they fix it, my expectations are higher than Yona Yahav, the repair does not require a large investment, but responsibility and safety
It's time!!!!!
How many times I fell from my full height, got hurt and caught myself.
Especially the wooden deck with the protruding screws along the Hecht promenade right on the seashore. Whoever designed this long deck, designed it without thinking about the maintenance which is not suitable for the municipality of Haifa. I have photos of the protruding screws that caused my fall and I sent them to the municipality. Each promenade is not only for the ceremonial opening to the glory of the mayor, but requires years of maintenance.
Why do the pedestrians walk in groups on the bicycle paths and miraculously there are still no accidents despite the marking that the path is only for bicycles
