In David HaCohen Square (Book Square) in Haifa and in other places around the city today (October 7, 2024) an activity is taking place to commemorate the terrible anniversary in the history of the country. Dozens of residents who stand in a human chain arrived at David HaCohen Square in the early hours of the morning and call for the return of the abductees who are languishing in the captivity of Hamas and for a moment not to drop the very important human issue from the public agenda.
The memorial vigils in David HaCohen Square will continue throughout the day.
Many drivers respond to signs asking them to honk as a sign of identification and support. During the morning, police were called to the scene following an incident in which a car driver attacked an elderly protester and knocked her to the ground. The incident was handled by police forces who quickly arrived in the area.
The leaders of the activity emphasize that the intention is not to create confrontations but rather to remind that this is a first-rate human issue and that we must continue to demand the release of the abductees who are in real danger with each passing day.
The stand and the protest are focused on creating a common denominator for support and the demand to return the abductees home.
