(haipo) - While in Jerusalem the residents enjoy free roads, in Haifa the prices of the Carmel tunnels continue to climb regularly - and all this, in accordance with the agreement signed with the operator of the tunnels, the Carmelton Company, from the day they opened. This is a constant increase every three months, which causes great anger among many in the city. Despite this, the residents of Haifa continue to remain silent and pay the exorbitant price. Isn't it time to exert significant public pressure?
Another price increase on October 1, 2024
Today, October 1, 2024, travel prices in the Carmel tunnels were updated again. Once again, the prices climbed according to the agreement with the Carmelton company, which became a regular procedure every three months. The current price increase comes at a difficult economic time for many, and it seems that the residents of Haifa, despite the silent protest, continue to use the tunnels.
The prices are rising again - from the Carmel Tunnels website

Promises
In the past, attempts were made to cancel the toll payments. In his previous term, Yona Yahav tried to cancel the payment and even enlisted the support of the Ministry of Transportation for this. The former Minister of Transportation, Miri Regev, also promised to intervene in the situation. Despite all the declarations and big words, nothing happened, and the prices continue to rise.

Yona Yahav: "I will fight for the cancellation of the toll"
The mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav, recently returned to his post and commented this morning (Tue. 1/10/24) on the increase that took effect today in the prices of the tunnels. According to him, he is adamantly opposed to another increase, especially in the difficult economic times we are in. "Since returning to my position, I have been working in every way to cancel the toll in the Carmel tunnels. I have enlisted the support of the Ministry of Transportation and now we are waiting for the Treasury's answer on the matter. If we do not receive a satisfactory answer, I will not hesitate and petition the court about the matter," Yahav said.
Can the residents of Haifa change the situation?
Despite Yahav's sharp words and attempts by public figures and ministers in the past, it seems that the failure continues. The main question that arises is why the residents of Haifa are not working to change the situation? Why isn't significant public pressure exerted to change the unfair reality that has been going on for too long?
While in Jerusalem, as mentioned, the residents are exempt from any toll for traveling on Route 16, the residents of Haifa continue to pay high prices every time they travel through the Carmel tunnels. With the exorbitant rates and the recurring increase in prices, maybe it's time to vote with your "feet" - or in this case, with your "vehicles" - and stop using the tunnels until a proper solution is found for the entire Haifa public.
The residents of Haifa are facing a challenge that is becoming more and more burdensome as time goes by. It's time to make a decision, continue to pay the high prices in the tunnels, or act together to change reality.
The tunnel from Carmel Beach to Carmel saves perhaps only about 3 to 4 minutes (if there are no unusual traffic jams in Freud), so the exorbitant price is not worth it.
Regarding the descent from the Grand down to the city: through Nahal HaGivuriv is better. As a Haifai, I haven't passed through the Carmel tunnels in years and I don't miss it. If the trip at your expense is simply not worth it. give up
There is something here that the public does not understand
As long as there are drivers who will drive through the tunnels (a handful who won't) it won't help!!!
There were quite a few demonstrations
There were quite a few conversations
Nothing comes of it and doubt!!! if it came out
Should be totally boycotted!!!
The price is simply an illusion without a doubt and more and more people are silent including the high ranks...
The Haifa public is simply a sucker.
With Carmelton's piggies, it's high time for a consumer boycott of the tunnels.
How much more will we give them to put z** on us?
Because Haifa is a city of dormant suckers
And if we change? Did it change anything?
only partially.
The connection to Route 22 from the direction of Ahuza/ Ramot Ramez, Givat Shir, Ramot Sapir, Romema, Ramot Ben Gurion includes a traffic light and a roundabout at the Grand Canyon.
The detour takes more time than driving straight through the Nahal HaGivuri road and connecting to the Paz bridge to road 22.
That is, even if it is free, in terms of time it saves nothing, and if there is an accident or something else that blocks the way, it means being stuck for hours without the possibility of choosing an alternative way. And it happens too often.
From the beginning, the whole project was not built with the residents of Haifa in mind, but those who come to it or pass through it.
The Carmelton company operates at record highs. Therefore, a consumer boycott is mandatory. Empty tunnels for a long time, and the landlord will stop being a pig...
Hello
Wise consumerism, many were right.
We are not treated in the north. We are not part of the state of Tel Aviv, nor Jerusalem where the legislators spend most of their time
Like the Carmel tunnels, so is Route 6 North, tolled in the North, free in the South.
and the Route 6 North tunnel, near Yakneam, for a fee
Including the extension of Highway 6 in the coming years, this section will also be tolled.
Really, really impudence and custom everywhere (to Haifa).
Happy holiday,
and happy new year,
Haim Y
It will also cost 20 NIS from this end, no one is interested in paying
The matter is very simple, at certain times it is impossible to bypass Haifa without getting into a traffic jam of an hour.
The only solution is to build a normal Haifa bypass on highway 2 to 22
I also stopped using the tunnels, as long as the passage is paid.
Contrary to what was said by some of the commenters, it seems to me that a "consumer boycott" may indeed cause change.
It is true that according to the agreement the Ministry of Finance is obliged to compensate the Carmelton company for its "losses" due to a minority of users, but in my opinion this is exactly the mechanism that will motivate the Ministry of Finance to act to "open" the agreement.
After the treasury is forced to pay millions of shekels as "compensation" to Carmelton for several months, it will become much more "sympathetic" to our just struggle...
Price is a matter of alternative.
For me, who comes from Kiryat and travels to Khedra, the alternative is still more expensive, both in time and in kilometers...
let's cancel Let's start with a discount for Haifa subscribers.
The tunnels are mainly used by the residents of the Galilee and the Carmel coast, not the Haifaites
This is an accurate demonstration of what an elaborate marketplace is. Those who care, are willing to pay. Those who care about saving, give way to those who are willing to pay.
I don't drive in tunnels.
I fly with Arkia and avoid price increases...
This will not happen, even if one section goes up to the price of NIS 40. why? Because almost all Israelis are suckers from birth, they were born that way and will remain that way all their lives.
This will not happen because the residents of Haifa do not have the character of most of the cars belong to different and different companies that are the ones who pay and not the direct driver of the car.
Although since the protest in 2015 I have not traveled in tunnels (except for emergencies), but unfortunately even if everyone does so the prices will not go down.
The reason is that the scandalous agreement to operate the tunnels, includes a clause in which if the revenues do not exceed a certain amount, linked to the index of course, the state makes up the difference.
Every few months the fares for traveling in the Carmel tunnels go up and in response to this Yahav promises to work to cancel them for the residents of the city.
Cam, cam.
It's time to cast your vote. Knowing how to be a wise and correct consumer. We have tremendous power as consumers to influence the service provider.
Try not to use the tunnels for a week, see what it will do to their coffers. A loss of millions of shekels.
Businesses only understand the bottom line in profit and loss reports. So let's lend a hand and change reality.
You won't drive for a week and it won't affect them at all. 0 shekels loss. Carmelton, the company of the tunnels, is covered in all directions and they can only profit. There is no way they can lose.
If no one will travel - they will submit the bill to the government which will pay from everyone's taxes according to the contract they have with the state (they have a safety net for a certain amount attached to an index that if they don't reach it every month - the government pays them).
In any case, the company will profit. There is nothing that can be done against them except to take away the project from them and this is something that the government should do.
The Israeli consumer is a terrible consumer. This is not new. As someone who lives in the French Carmel, Shufersal is an excellent example - mediocre products-, prices that climb and climb and full of buyers (not only basic and complete products)
...I couldn't be more clear than that, Mellutin is right.
A miserable people. The main thing is to lick a miserable bully. But protesting against the prices is really not.
Y.Y. The zero that is not counted in Jerusalem is that he did not send the representatives to the Economic Committee to demand a discounted rate for the Haifaites or even to fight earlier that the state would finance the tunnel and there would be no toll road. Even so, the state gave a minimum security basket to Carmelton, which means that even if the public doesn't pass through the tunnel, the state pays them revenue, so of course it's worth it for them to just raise the rate non-stop. That way they save wear and tear in the tunnels and the state pays the difference
The finance boys are trash.
There is great importance in the change, regarding the travel rates in the Carmel tunnels. It's time for Haifa people to travel for free through the tunnels.
I stopped using the Carmel tunnels only because of the prices
