Under the direction of the MGB commander - the soldiers of the corps worked to arrest illegal residents in all sectors as part of the operational preparation for the Tishrei holidays. During the operation of the forces in the last week, 495 illegal residents and another 44 suspects who helped them were arrested.
Illegal residents in Haifa
Since the beginning of the year (2024), over 21,000 illegal residents and about 2,500 suspects who assisted in their detention, employment and transportation have been arrested by the MGB fighters.
Since the beginning of the year, the soldiers of the Border Guard have been operating as part of a military operation led by the commander of the corps, Brigadier General Yitzchak, to locate and arrest illegal residents, employers, transporters and smugglers. Enforcement is carried out in all parts of the country and this while activating all the units of the corps including the intelligence units, special units and regular security units and companies and this in close cooperation with the General Security Service, the IDF and the Israel Police.
Operational preparation of the Border Guard
Last week (22-27/9/24), the MGB commander instructed to increase activity on the issue as part of the operational preparation of the Border Guard and the Israel Police to increase security and criminal enforcement in all parts of the country in preparation for the Tishrei holidays.
In the activity that took place last week in the Jerusalem sector and the surrounding area, 350 illegal residents and 27 suspects who assisted in transporting, restraining and employing them were arrested by MGB fighters. In one of the incidents, the fighters identified a number of suspects on the perimeter fence who are trying to cross towards the state territory. The fighters began chasing them, and after a suspicious arrest procedure that included shooting in the air, 6 illegal residents were arrested.
145 illegal residents and 17 suspects who assisted them
In the northern, central, southern, coastal sectors and along the seam route with the territories of Judea and Samaria, 145 illegal residents and 17 suspects who helped them were caught by MGB fighters.
The Commander of the Border Guard, Brigadier General Yitzhak, commented this morning in the military assessment of the situation regarding the activities of the forces and said:
"Last year, on the morning of 07.10, the morning of Simchat Torah, our fighters acted with determination, professionalism and supreme bravery, they fought the Hamas terrorists in face-to-face battles and stopped the terrorist attack. We must continue with the understanding that the security mission is non-stop and we must persevere and increase our activity in order to fulfill our mission - protecting the citizens of the country!'
Border Guard fighters and Israel Police officers will continue to operate day and night under the leadership of Inspector General Major General Danny Levy as part of Operation "Emergency Braking" with increased forces in preparation for and during the Tishrei holidays to strengthen the sense of security among the citizens of the country in all sectors and this while activating all units and means.
