(Hai Fe) - The Haifa Municipality and the Nature and Parks Authority report a downward trend in the number of reports to the municipal hotline about trash cans being overturned by wild pigs. At the same time, the live system here receives complaints that the phenomenon still exists.
Is Haifa able to deal with the wild pigs that have taken over the city's streets? The Municipality of Haifa and the Nature and Parks Authority report a decrease in the number of reports to the municipal hotline about trash cans being overturned by wild pigs. Despite this, complaints continue to reach the "Hai Pa" system regarding a phenomenon that disturbs residents in certain areas.
For example, residents of Shunamit Street complain that every morning they find the street covered in garbage due to wild pigs that ran amok during the night. One of the residents, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "Shame on the municipality for the state of cleanliness in a city like Haifa, despite all the mayor's promises to remove the pigs within three months."
A reported decrease in the number of incidents
Despite the complaints from the field, the municipality and the Nature and Parks Authority claim a significant decrease in encounters with pigs in the public space, as well as in the extent of overturning trash cans. Official data show that in the month of August 2024, 49 cases of overturning of bins were recorded - a decrease of 37% compared to the month of July, in which 78 incidents were recorded, and a dramatic decrease compared to previous months such as June (115 inquiries). The comparison with previous years reinforces the downward trend: in August 2023 there were 112 inquiries, in August 2022 269 inquiries, and in August 2021 181 inquiries.
In addition, there was also a decrease in the number of reports issued by the municipality against residents who fed animals in an uncontrolled manner - 24 reports in August, a 25% decrease compared to July.
A study published by Prof. Itai Barry, head of the Department of Administration and Public Policy at the University of Haifa, confirms the data. The study found a significant decrease in encounters with wild boars in the city from April 2024 to August. Barry points out that the decrease is due to municipal policies, which include actions such as fencing off sensitive areas, frequent emptying of trash cans, campaigns to prevent pig feeding, and handling unruly pigs.
Despite the encouraging data, residents still ask questions about the municipal treatment of the phenomenon. Why are bin overturning incidents not dealt with in the early hours of the morning? What is the status of the pig reintroduction program? And following the decrease in the phenomenon, will the program of shooting unruly pigs be stopped?
The Haifa Municipality informed Haifa:
"The complaint about the overturning of the bin was received on Sunday 16/9/24 at 11:00 a.m. and was dealt with immediately. Haifa Municipality continues to work to reduce the conflict between the wild boars and the residents. In accordance with the understandings and summaries made with the "Nature and Parks Authority".
The problem on Geula Street is bats in large numbers and wild trees that wrap around the facades of the crumbling buildings. But it is very convenient for a municipality to bother to send a thank you letter to a resident who on his own initiative went to the public inquiries department to praise the resident without doing anything. Nothing. Grunish. And more nicknames for this filthy municipality Haifa!
I think that the project to reduce the scourge of pigs is getting a good solution and as evidenced by the amount of complaints and their corruption is drastically decreasing. A little patience and the issue will be over.
On Cypress Boulevard I see full-grown pigs almost every evening
There is no doubt that there is a drastic change, you hardly see pigs walking around in the urban area.
There are almost no upside down bins.
Keep going, the direction is right and the way is right.
Thanks.
There is a decrease in the frequency of garbage removal. This is probably a deliberate policy, to lure pigs into the city and then indiscriminately slaughter them, including nursing mothers and puppies.
Since Shihav was returned, Haifa has become a dump.
Not trying to be a snob, Khalila. However, Khazir bar is called:
"Wild boar" in English.
You must finish the work to the end and not do partial work. Keep going and good luck!
Haifa is a city of two-legged pigs. I prefer wild boars to the wretched murderous inhabitants.
Even in Ramot Ramez. Pigs and jackals are still walking around and howling every night. It's time to act in the neighborhood as well
Instead of pigs came foxes.
The Dania neighborhood is flooded with foxes, which are wild animals that sometimes carry rabies.
What are you waiting for?
Will they bite the residents?
There really aren't enough pig killers, let's kill foxes too, let's kill them all! Light to the Gentiles is us! Disgusting, how do you not throw up when you look in the mirror
Garbage cans bursting with food scraps attract wild boars to dine. The city managers will do more if they look at the agreement signed by Ben Rataj with the city manager on 19.4.24/XNUMX/XNUMX and hasten to implement it. Since it was signed, there has been a severe and documented deterioration in the state of sanitation in the city. Klish put chains on the bins. The bins are not filled with available and inviting food. They are documented as evidence of a contrary policy Because the municipality's campaign is shouting on every street corner, leave them in the wild??
exactly! Every word is true!!!
Maybe if they try to treat the trash instead of the pigs it attracts, it might accidentally succeed ♀️ 🤦
And you, with your newspaper from here, are complicit in this fiasco. The blood is on both of your hands.
And soon the jackals….
To eliminate the danger of the pigs as soon as possible
Due to the difficult economic situation, it is mainly because of people looking for bottles, food, etc.
Very true. But the municipality is to blame and there are not enough inspectors. Municipal police.
It would be nice if the residents would also make sure to throw trash in the trash containers and also make sure to close them.
The matter of the closed bins also applies to workers who remove garbage and leave them open.
And of course it is advisable to wash the bins from time to time inside and out
Pigs roam every evening on Yarakon Street and in the center of Carmel
The people are guilty because they are given food. They put whole loaves of bread next to the bins. Besides, people should thank the inspectors where they saw a pig, if they don't call how would they know where the pigs are hiding.
To summarize what is written:
The maintenance of the tunnel is more important than the painting of the walls
Continue consistent thinning, this is the already proven solution that helps return the situation to normal dimensions.
Just thinning.
proven? where? Pay attention to the amount of pig killing in previous terms of the mayor.. Has the problem been solved?
