The association "Yad Ezer Heber" was established with the aim of helping disadvantaged populations and children at risk. The association operates out of a deep commitment to the community, with a focus on ensuring food, care and emotional support for those who need it. Over the years, the association expanded to a variety of projects, including aid to Holocaust survivors, operation of specialized homes, and education and treatment centers for children in distressed neighborhoods.

About the association

A helping hand to a friend - A non-profit organization founded in 2001 in Haifa by Shimon Sebag, who was seriously injured in a car accident. The non-profit organization focuses on providing aid and support to disadvantaged populations, especially Holocaust survivors, the elderly, and families in need. This non-profit organization operates a wide variety of projects, including food distribution, shelters, medical assistance , and mental support. One of the main projects of the association is a nursing home for Holocaust survivors, which provides survivors with a warm home and a sense of community in their later years.

In addition, the association takes care of blankets and stoves for the elderly, organizes Pesach seders for the community, organizes events such as weddings and bar mitzvahs, and provides medical supplies and transportation services for students. The association also operates a hostel for at-risk youth, and special buildings for children from disadvantaged families that provide them with educational support, classes, and hot meals and more.

What else does the association do?

Internships: The association operates a number of specialty homes in and around Haifa, where hundreds of hot meals are distributed every day to those in need, including the elderly, children and the lonely.

Food packages: Dry and cooked food packages are distributed to needy families who are unable to get to the specialized houses. On Thursday, a special effort is devoted to distributing additional food packages to the needy towards the end of the week.

Homes for the homeless: The association owns several houses where the homeless live in a supportive atmosphere, to help them stabilize socially and economically.

Legal aid: Lawyers on behalf of the association provide legal support to people who find themselves in financial distress and have to deal with execution claims and other financial difficulties.

Furniture and clothing warehouse: In a designated warehouse, furniture, clothes, electrical goods, books and toys for babies and adults are distributed, all of this free of charge to those in need.

Warming up for the elderly: The association provides blankets, stoves and other heating equipment during the cold winter periods to the elderly and conducts home visits to ensure that they live in adequate conditions.

Special Events: The association organizes Passover seders, weddings, bar mitzvahs and covenants for families without means. During holidays such as Hanukkah, large parties are held for children from families in need that include shows and cultural activities.

Medicines GMC: The association operates a pharmaceutical pharmacy and provides medical treatments in the dental clinic operating in the association's building.

Support for children and teenagers: The association's "Children's House" provides a warm and supportive environment for children from disadvantaged families, and includes educational activities, homework help, meals and diverse classes. Also, the association operates another home for at-risk youth, which helps them find a permanent place to live and psychological and social support.

Community Support: The association organizes many social projects during the year, such as distributing bags and equipment to children at the beginning of the school year and organizing free camps during the summer for children who cannot pay.

The association operates all over Haifa and the surrounding area and provides essential services on a completely voluntary basis, relying on generous donations only. The association's vision is to bring about social change by helping people get out of the cycle of poverty and hardship and giving them a chance for a better and more dignified life.

Best regards,
Shimon Sebag
Founder and CEO of the association.
