Yesterday (12/9/24) in the evening, a 16-month-old toddler was transferred to Rambam from Ziv Medical Center by helicopter, in critical condition with multi-system failure after inhaling paint powder.
According to Dr. Amir Khads, Acting Director of the Department of Pediatrics at Rambam and a senior physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Department at the Medical Center, when the toddler arrived at Rambam, she underwent CPR, during which she was connected to an ECMO machine that replaces the heart and lungs.
"We had hoped that despite the toddler's difficult condition, the treatment she received would succeed in bringing about improvement, but the substance she inhaled led to multi-system damage, and to our great regret, despite all efforts, we had to determine her death today at noon. Our hearts go out to the family."
