I met a fairy. There are tooth fairies, dream fairies and fairies that feed. Last Thursday, in the beautiful library of the Jordan Valley, in Beit Gabriel on the banks of the Sea of Galilee, the director of the library introduced me to a book fairy. Just as I don't forget those who recommended me a book that did me harm, so I thank those who recommended me a book that did me good for my soul, which was accurate and came at the right time.

Until that morning I had not planned to visit our library at all, but recently I was rewarded by the decision that before I go to purchase a book, I would read it first and if it is worth a second reading for me - I would look for it. If so, this week's theme is no remaining או loose But rather, search (Follow him and get to my private library) Or zero (to claim it).

"Let's talk about libraries"

Let's talk about libraries for a moment. Did you know that borrowing books from the regional library is free of charge?! Enter the library in your area and you will discover a treasure unfolding before you, just waiting for you to choose it. With all my love for bookstores, there are no "bestsellers" restrictions in the library, and of course, I enjoy visiting my Spree there, because no one takes out the the bride of the sea From there claiming that she "grabs a shelf".

I admit that in the Jordan Valley we are lucky with the incredible location of the library, its beautiful design, the top-notch director and it turns out that the readers are also there (maybe they are also readers but I haven't met them yet). However, I'm pretty sure there are equivalent libraries in other areas as well, and I'd even appreciate it if you sent locations and recommendations for a visit.

Well, at the meeting with the book fairy, while talking with one book lover to another, we collected her recommendations from the shelves according to my wish list: a book that will make my heart feel good, an optimistic book, a well-written book, a book that will take me to a magical place, no - not a heavy one, My heart is heavy enough these days. Then - she stopped and rememberedParnassus on wheels של Christopher Morley. We found it and she said, no, she didn't, she promised: "You're going to swallow this book."

Just as Cinderella didn't know exactly what dress she wanted for the ball, but the one the fairy arranged for her was the one, so the Jordan Valley Library fairy equipped me with the one. Because after I finished reading about Roger Mifflin's traveling library and how Helen McGill bought it from him just so her brother wouldn't do it in front of her, I did something I can't remember the last time I did, maybe when I was a kid - I hugged and kissed him. Yes, yes, that's what I did and read out loud "What a book from-to-k!".

When I video chatted with my soldier, between the longing and the worry, I enthusiastically told her about the book and to her credit she had the patience to listen to her mother pour out about a book written in 1917, ah... more than 100 years have passed since Christopher Morley wrote it and it holds the water well , as Helen holds the reins of the mare Peg. He is funny, playful, full of love for books (there is no one Mr. Mifflin can't make him fall in love with any book adapted to his dimensions) and I love that the characters are real in the sense that their physical description is not that of Mr. and Mrs. Olam but something more realistic than everyday life and no less, and even more, beautiful surprisingly.

This is how Helen sums up the adventure she embarked on:

I rolled along a foreign road, in the sole possession of Francis (probably the only one in the universe), with a mare, a dog and a pile of books in my hands. Since the morning of the previous day, my life had completely deviated from its normal course. I took four hundred dollars out of my savings, sold thirteen dollars worth of books, got into a fight, and met a philosopher. And not only that, I also dimly began to develop my own philosophy. And all this to prevent Andrew from buying more books!

Regarding the question whether search או zero, I'm going out לחפש After Parnassus on wheels and hunt it down to my private library, even if I have to do it on a horse and cart.

Book details:

Farnesus On Wheels by Christopher Morley, Chameleon Publishing, 2012.
I wish you to find the right book for you and above all, to read. Always read.
As Mifflin said in this book, "In my humble opinion, a person who loves books will never go hungry".

Pleasant reading and may good words be by your side always,
Lily

    • This means that I have to release another book already, to make sure that you read out of choice 😁
Thank you sister, have a good Saturday.

  1. Indeed, a magical book. He has a sequel - "The Haunted Bookstore" (also published by Zikat). It is also recommended. I liked it, although some of my acquaintances claimed that it was less good than "Pransus on wheels". Christopher Morley has a book, actually - a book - another, wonderful one, translated into Hebrew - "Kathleen", published by Nine Souls. All three books were edited by Yonatan Dayan. Other books on the subject of books: "Bookstore on Wheels", by the wonderful Scottish writer Jenny Colgan. She is a Scottish writer. All her books are "doing good to the heart". Ha'Coursa Publishing. Translation: Nitzan Other books of hers, which were translated into Hebrew (all by the same publisher and the same translator): Cafe by the sea, the endless beach. Another really wonderful book, which cannot be put down, is "Mandel of the books", by Stefan Zweig, translated from German. Harel Keen. And let's not forget the old book "Derech Charing Cross 84" by the American writer Helen Hahnoff.

    • Thank you very much Orly!
Indeed, I saw that Morley had a sequel to this book and I signed up to read it.
I didn't know about his book that came out in nine souls. Excellent publishing, I will read it.
I'm currently reading 'Book Store on Wheels' and will post my impressions in the coming week :)
Thanks a lot for the additional recommendations, adding them to my list.
Have a week full of good words.

  2. Lily of the words and Lily that I'm lucky to be in friends.
    You are simply stunning!!!
    Shabbat Shalom.
About three years ago I accidentally entered the municipal library in Acre.
This was my meeting point with my special students. The need of one of them for the bathroom made me go in and ask for permission for them and then...
That's when I discovered the magical world of a library with a modern touch that invites the younger generation to come in and relax with a book.
It was a fascinating experience. We were there for nearly half an hour in a meeting with the person in charge and more of my pouring out descriptions.
The result was their interest and free movement among the books.
    And ancient Acre?
She waited for us patiently and kindly.
    To this day sugar it.

    • Dear Ofer!
how exciting you are i missed
And I would be happy to visit this library in Acre, although I'm sure that part of the magic is your guidance. Maybe we'll get the chance someday. Have a calm and blessed week.
