"How will we send the children to school and kindergartens when there is no protected space?" • Parents in Haifa are worried

(haipo) - Parents of students and kindergarten children in the Bat Galim neighborhood in Haifa, claim that the educational institutions in the neighborhood - the "Aliya" elementary school and the municipal kindergartens, will not be able to provide the students and kindergarten children with protected spaces in the event of rockets falling or a similar security incident. Moreover, according to them, in the Second Lebanon War, in 2006, the Bat Galim neighborhood was damaged, which further strengthens the need to open the upcoming school year with the students and kindergarten children safe and protected.

Shelter flooded with water

"The Aliya school has a shelter that has been flooded with water for months, and at the moment no attempt has been made to repair it. Within the school complex there are two municipal kindergartens, pre-compulsory and compulsory. There are 30 children in each kindergarten. Two kindergartens are currently being built, with the area each of 30 square meters. This will not be enough for all the children and it seems that it will not be ready for the beginning of the school year. In addition, there is an area inside the school where the afternoon is held, which was decided to be the safest area in the school and to which those who do not have a better protected space will turn At the same time, it is not a protected area. This is the solution in terms of the shelter if there is an alarm during the war.

Another idea that came up and it is not clear whether it will be implemented, is to protect the area in the school, where the afternoon is located and is considered the most protected area in the school at the moment. It is not clear whether it will be possible to do this and if it is decided that it is, whether it will be possible to do the necessary reinforcements at the same time as learning in the building.

Disaster-prone neighborhoods

"There is another municipal garden on Yonatan Street (Hofit Garden and Violet Garden) where there is an MMD for two adjacent gardens. Maybe it's not a perfect situation and the chance of getting to the school with all the children within a minute is low, but the solution is reasonable for the children. Publications by the Municipality of Tel Aviv show that on September 2023st all the municipal gardens in the city will be protected, since they started protecting them from the day the war broke out , in October 130. From what they published, there were XNUMX kindergartens without a protected area, and a complete solution was found for each kindergarten so that the children would be as safe as possible. I do not understand why the Haifa municipality did not act in a similar way, at least in the disaster-prone neighborhoods located near military bases What is required in order to protect all the kindergartens is enormous, and perhaps that is why there is room for prioritization in any case, it is not possible in dangerous areas to send children to the frameworks when there is no solution for everyone."

sanitational mennace

The chairman of the neighborhood committee, Yuval Busin, is very concerned about the shelter situation in the entire neighborhood, especially in the educational institutions. We didn't see him from the inside," he says.

"At the beginning of the war, I saw that the shelter was flooded with water. I demanded that the municipality come and see, they pumped water out of the shelter, but inside it was like the Titanic. In addition to the fact that the shelter is not usable in an emergency, it is also a sanitary hazard."

Sitting in a stairwell and hoping for the best

Busin continues: "The municipality says that the shelter is not suitable for the number of children and I accept that. It is clear that this shelter cannot be renovated anymore, but if they do not intend to renovate it, they must fill it with concrete, because in its current state it puts the children and their health at great risk. I am not interested Me if the municipality has no money. I expect to hear the truth. This shelter in particular must be full of concrete.

In Kiryat Haim, for example, they took care of 3 shields. Some people are on the beaches of Bat Galim and may be there when there is an alarm. Obviously, we also have room for protection. In Bat Galim, rockets fell all over the neighborhood, because they are looking for the navy base. We were told that it's not bad that they didn't bring us umbrellas, since they are not suitable for a long stay, but that's great. This is exactly what we need for those who come to bathe in the sea. I don't even want to start talking about what's happening in the old buildings in the neighborhood, which don't have shelters at all, and when there are alarms, people sit in the stairwell and hope for the best."

It's been 10 months already

It should be noted that approximately 10 days after the 'Iron Swords' war broke out, municipal workers came to inspect the shelter at the school and determined that it could not be used due to its condition. On the other hand, the parents claim that it is impossible that 10 months have passed since then and there is still no complete solution for the school children.

Haifa Municipality's response:

In the Bat Galim neighborhood, there are four kindergartens and one elementary school - Violet Garden operates with a proper protected area. At Garden Hufit, a "most protected" area has been defined, and in the event of an ongoing emergency, the garden will operate in an alternative structure. In the meantime, the construction of an MMM (protected institutional space, for kindergarten children) will begin in the near future.
Two additional kindergartens operate on the grounds of the "Alia" elementary school. These days we are in the midst of building two kindergartens that will provide an answer for the kindergarten children and the school students. Until the completion of the kindergartens, the students and kindergarten children will study in the "most protected space available".
At the same time, we periodically pump the shelter at the school, which is filled with sea water due to its proximity to the sea, and it will be pumped before the start of the school year.

  1. Michal Gober.. an unnecessary article or should the title tell about the measures the municipality takes to protect the students

  2. I must point out that there is no standard protected area in the honeysuckle/palm garden in Kiryat Shaprintsak on Derech France street next to Ramot school. The defined protected space is the toilet space of the kindergarten.
As a parent of a child who is starting a school year there, I contacted the municipality several times and received no response at all. The request was made both in writing and by phone.
    Obviously not right.

  3. To all the residents of the Galilee, you are idiots, innocent suckers, you kidnap and I feel sorry for you. It will take you 10 seconds to recover mentally, physically, economically, socially. The towers in Tel Aviv, Herzliya Ra'anana, the apartment prices there are expensive, not like the Amidar apartments in Kiryat Shmona, that's the issue, all the decision makers live in Gush Dan in expensive houses, and what matters to them is that their house stays, they don't care about you, you are naive and frivolous

    • Hahaha... the Chief of Staff arranged a massacre and a war for us and the Gush Dan leftists inflame the hatred

  4. The champion is Matula, she won the Hezbollah championship lol she will play in the semi-finals against Katzrin Ann Ortel and in the Haifa final against Matula for all the cash lol more than for all the missiles that will fall

  5. Northern playoff 1st place Metula vs. Kiryat Shmona The big derby lol Margaliot vs. Malkia West Galilee playoff Shlomi vs. Shtoula What a thrilling game Nahariya vs. Kebri the big derby lol Who will make it to the finals in the Upper Galilee Metula 1st place in the Western Galilee Shlomi this is the final of Hezbollah lol

  6. Nassarallah loves Haifa haha Bada get ready if there's a war you'll steal what Kiryat Shmona and Metula stole We have some alarms that are also heard not only in the north lol

  7. Every year they pretend to take care of the children. They send a lot of cans of paint to paint, but beyond that nothing.

  8. My sons have studied in Alia since the opening of Bis. 7 years ago..even in the first year the parents complained that the shelter was flooded and the municipality was there and promised to take care of it....amazing that it was not taken care of....to read and not believe it. Maybe instead of killing wild pigs the municipality would benefit from taking care of what is needed.

  9. These are not the only municipal gardens in Haifa that do not have a shelter
There is also no protected area in Yamit Va Sela Garden on Yitzhak Sade Street
It is more important for a pigeon to take care of dogs than children

  10. Most of the city is built of old buildings without reasonable protection
Which means that the answer available to all of us is a stairwell that is falling apart anyway.
