The association also says that the Haifa municipality then published that "the court approved the municipality's policy". However, since then, both in response to the association's inquiries and in the media, the municipality and RTG have stated outright that the wild boar population in the city and its surroundings is being thinned out.
In 'Let Live Live' they claim that while in the past only pigs that showed signs of danger were killed, after monitoring and by decision of a professional ecological agency, now the policy is one of systematic and intensive killing, in which every pig found in the city area can be killed, even when it comes to pigs that are recognized as friendly and When it comes to piglets.
The petition claims that the report summarizing the activities of RTG and the Haifa municipality for the years 2022-2023, stated that the thinning operations undertaken under Yahav for over a decade did not help in reducing the entry of pigs into the city, and that it even increased in these years.
It is also claimed that the municipality and RTG privatize the killing of the pigs to private contractors and that they are the ones who carry out the shooting and also determine when and where the shooting will take place and which pigs to shoot, this is against the law.
"Besides the amorphous definition of 'a pig that has lost its fear of humans,'" the petition states, "the contractors are not faced with criteria or procedures regarding pigs that must be killed.
