"I'm ashamed that this is how the neighborhood looks" • The underground passage in Haifa is filthy and stinks

(haipo) - The underground passage for pedestrians, which connects the Kiryat Eliezer and Bat Galim neighborhoods in Haifa, is once again coming up in the bush, when residents complain that the place is neglected and dirty, a strong stench rises from it and there are pockets of stagnant water. The municipality claims that the crossing is regularly cleaned twice a week.

Residents of the Kiryat Eliezer and Bat Galim neighborhoods complain that the underground passage connecting the two neighborhoods is dirty, neglected and stinks, this is in addition to standing water in the place, which is a fertile breeding ground for mosquitoes, which, among other things, may transmit the West Nile fever virus.

"I'm ashamed"

A resident of the Kiryat Eliezer neighborhood put up a post in a neighborhood group on Facebook, in which he wrote that last weekend a family from the north who arrived by train was staying with him. On their way from the train to his house they passed through the underground passage, and so also on their way back, on their return from the visit.

The same resident says that the family members asked him countless questions, trying to understand the meaning of the severe neglect and the great dirt they saw in the underground passage. He shared his embarrassment at the situation and expressed his sorrow that this is how the face of the neighborhood looks. "The municipality treats these neighborhoods as if they were Haifa's backyard: "All representatives and elected officials in the municipality know the problem and do not address it," he wrote.

"Dozens of inquiries were opened on the subject, which were closed without anything being done to change the reality. Not severe sanitation hazards, not mice, not cockroaches, nothing made anyone change the sad reality in the underground passage. I am ashamed that it looks like this."

The Haifa Municipality informed Haifa:
"The public part of the underground passage in Bat Galim is regularly maintained and cleaned twice a week. In this framework, the issue of lighting in the passage is also dealt with, which is in good working order. As for the standing water, the matter will be checked and dealt with immediately by the municipality."

  1. [addition with Haifa problem with the wild pigs, another problem with dirty places. let's see how the new mayor will deal with that. I know now time is hard and difficult but these problems started long ago and if I will not take care of it it will only get worse.

  2. The thinking is wrong. The underground passages must be part of a complete commercial center with shops along these passages, so that in fact it will be an active center every hour when a train passes and the shops can also operate. The commercial center will be responsible for maintaining the clean and safe passage.
The crossing will be part of a complete underground shopping complex that will connect directly to Mayrhof Square
So it will be like an underground street that can act as a huge shelter in an emergency, and also as a passage in winter and summer in an air-conditioned and pleasant way. In many countries there is such thinking that between neighborhoods and train stations there will be commercial centers that will pass through them and that way the passage will be maintained, safe, pleasant and heated/cooled.
We need to change the whole thinking about the train stations in Haifa.

  3. And what about the tunnel on Herzl Street? Stench and filth. And Mayrhof Square is full of beggars and filth and stench

  4. Thank God someone picked up the gauntlet
took a photo and passed it on to the media
    The underground passage
Between Kiryat Eliezer. and Bat Galim
The train station will come (and remember Eden)
I wish the passage would be fixed and the filth cleaned up
And the main thing is that all the street-dres will be eliminated.
    and the various syringes.

  5. It's clear why it's dirty, you probably don't get there cleaning streets. Very simply, we must send a cleaning worker there from the municipality. It's safe to urinate there and dogs probably hang around there and leave excrement there, everything is closed and the heat is also a hotbed for a dump site. That is why we must clean only words that can be stolen from the place
The municipality must clean or block the passage because only diseases will harm anyone who passes. Symptoms that must be treated and immediately!!!
