The national writing contest for children named after Rika Berkovich is an Israeli writing contest for elementary school students in Israel, and it has been held continuously once a year since 2004. The contest is currently managed by writer Eliran Dayan with the assistance of the Motiv magazine team and under the auspices of the D.G.S. Association of People of Literature and Poetry in Israel

Every year the number of winners in the competition increases as the number of years of existence of the State of Israel. The purpose of the competition is to encourage writing and reading Hebrew, to strengthen the love of the written word, the Hebrew language and literature, to develop creativity and imagination and abilities of written and oral expression. The submitted works are examined by the competition committee. The judging team consists of poets, writers and educators.
In a close conversation, the mayor, Mr. Yona Yahav, asked to hear about the topics they wrote about, about the background and inspiration for writing. The discourse, explanations and sharing of the students were also a source of pride.


Ilana Truk, head of the education directorate at the Haifa municipality, mentioned to the girls the right to receive recognition of young writers from the DGS association, the association of people of literature and poetry in Israel, which this competition is sponsored by.


The director of the competition, Mr. Eliran Dayan, pointed out the complex year, the 20th year of the competition, a year in which many texts came from students who lived in the communities that were affected: the communities of the north, the surrounding communities. Texts that touched directly on fears, doubts, longings.
