What is a social business?
Social businesses aim to solve social problems through business activity (sale of products or services) and relying mainly on independent funding sources (which are not donations or grants). Social businesses can operate as a business, an independent trader, an association, a public utility company or a cooperative.
What is social business activity?
- The employment of workers who have difficulty finding work in the competitive market.
- Businesses that sell an environmentally friendly service or product.
- Businesses that provide services or products to populations with special needs.
- Businesses that provide services or products that are not available in the free market, in creative business models.
Two tracks in the competition:
- A track for businesses that carry out social or environmental activities as part of their business activities.
- Track for non-profit organizations that conduct business as an independent profit unit.
