Four records in the stream of heroes - and one in conversations • Avi Albaum

The stream of heroes is Wadi Rushmia. Rosh Mia in Aramaic means Rosh Maim and this is the name of the stream that starts in the center of Horeb and ends at Shemen Beach. Wadi Rushmia is the stream of heroes, the largest of Haifa's streams, it used to flow into the Kishon. The stream has five tributaries, four of which have names that indicate their origin - Shanan, Ziv, Remez and Vardia and the fifth is Wadi Tan, the origin of Tan in the area of the Gaola hostel and the origin of the name Tan - Tana or Tina in Arabic.

The first record belongs to the Rushmia Bridge - it was inaugurated by Hassan Shukri, the mayor of the city in 1928 and it was the largest bridge in Israel - it is 90 meters long and almost 8 meters wide. The opening of the bridge affected the development of the neighborhoods to the east (Halisa and others) and its transformation into a leading transportation artery made Herzl Street the main street in the city.

The new bridge, inaugurated in 1989, is called the 22nd Battalion Bridge. After the 22nd Battalion of the Carmeli Brigade that won the battle for the eastern entrance to Haifa in the War of Independence. The 22nd Battalion bridge, which is 274 meters long, was, when it was inaugurated, the largest bridge in Israel. And this is the second record. The shopping center called the Grand Canyon was inaugurated in 1999 and at the opening was considered the largest mall in the Middle East and this is the third record. The word mall entered Hebrew with the opening of the Ayalon Mall - it is the bread of two words - shopping and parking lot and has nothing to do with the mall as a river channel.

The Rupin Interchange (Tunnel Interchange), inaugurated in 2010, is the interchange with the largest number of levels in Israel, where the lower level is the connecting road between the two tunnels, then at different heights are the access ramps and then the old bridge - on Rupin Road. The interchange is the fourth record.

The fifth record, the one that is still only on paper, is the "biggest extreme park in Israel" the current mayor, in a previous term, at the inauguration of the Nahal HaGivori road, announced the establishment of the park. In 2013, the municipality published a visualization of the park alongside announcements about its applicability and comparing it to major extreme events in the world.

But Yona Yahav is not the first. In order to prepare a tour of the river, I went through the archives and found
The following news published in "Kol Ha'am" in March 1955 "...passengers of the Rushmia Bridge will discover the Wadi headquarters, its houses are old and some of them unfit for habitation. It is known to many that years ago Abba Khushi, the mayor of Haifa, boasted of his plan - one of his many plans - to plant trees on the banks of the Wadi A wide and magnificent national park, and his intention is to turn the wadi into a large and deep lake, the surroundings of which will be used as a summer camp and a vacation spot for the city's residents. As you pass over the bridge, looking down, you will be able to see how Khushi's plans came true: everything remains as it was...

Sami Michael, peace be upon him, said that once Haifa was a city of wadis - Wadi Salib, Wadi Nisens, Wadi Rushmia and today it is a city of Ramot, Ramat Alon, Ramat Golda, Ramat Peres and it turns out that it is also a city of promises.

  1. I remember Vadi Rushmia as a child. A stream full of water during the winter. It was fun to walk there. To see the wagoners with the small horse farm and the authentic old houses. The wonderful vegetation and fruit trees and in particular the structure of the shooting range. You could walk there for hours. Rest under any fresh fruit tree to pick, wash in the stream and eat to your heart's content. An experience that will never come back. All nature was destroyed by the mayor. And a by-pass road was built instead to the Grand Canyon. Why destroy something so wonderful in nature like the Wadi Salib neighborhood. The so-called Stanton neighborhood. Because of Sir Stanton. They made the movie Mr. Leon and Zeev Vaaf there. A real pain in the ass. The beautiful houses in the Bauhaus style. Unfortunately only in Europe are they preserved. They left us no trace of the past. And certainly not for tourists. Tel Avivians could only dream of such places The Bat Galim pool is also going to be destroyed and become a hotel. It's a wonder that the young people are leaving. And the real estate prices have gone up . Bring here all the collaborators from the territories. And the country is full of Hams.

  2. Don't be so quick to pay tribute to the extreme park on the edge of Nahal Givorim. This is a plan that was torpedoed with a sharp sword by Klish, only because she didn't conceive it... After Yahav returned to his position, the plan went out again for a practical examination and may move forward in the current term, among other things, if he finds funding for it .

  3. 2 comments:
The stream starts at Rosh Mia and not in the canyon. The remains of Rosh Mia can be seen around 47 Palmach St. in the old Romema.
The original plan to establish a park in the stream was made by the British. The construction of the mall on the area of the river was made possible due to the definition of part of the park area as recreation and relaxation areas

  4. The Grand Canyon and the Rupin Interchange are two of the biggest disasters in Haifa, not to mention the Nahal HaGivoriv road. But in Israel as in Israel every good part of nature is destroyed.

  5. Haifa was and remains a province.
There is something in the Haifa public, as a whole, that prevents it from electing and supporting a mayor with any real vision.
The only one who had one, was Einat, who admittedly had mistakes, but they put her feet on the council and the residents preferred to return to the one who knows how to make flower squares but has no real vision.

  6. The mayors have always been impervious to business ideas. They made mistakes and nonsense one after the other Almogi, (with the exception of Gural) Mitzna, Yahav, Kalish and thus destroyed and ruined the city. Mitzvah the axis of Moriah, Yahav with the hallucinatory matron, Kalish with the sheer stupidity, Almogi at the time avoided an amazing tourist development such as a mini-Disneyland, a medical center, and more. Time after time the residents of Haifa have won the worst mayors.

    • The Matron, bypassing Kiryat and the Carmel tunnels, are a huge relief to the lame transportation that was in Haifa Bay.
A trip from Kiryat Haim (yes, Haifa) to the center of Carmel took about an hour. All transportation was conducted through the congested Independence Street with every Route 4 in the bay.
      Today there are excellent alternatives.

  7. It would have been possible to develop something a little more touristic, in Haifa nothing is being developed, only the layering of roads in Katana

    • Also true. There is the Hecht Promenade for domestic tourism, not for foreign tourism, which is so much needed in the days of non-war

  8. Mistake! There is no Ramat Peres, there is "Naot Peres" which they also want to disrupt with an unnecessary matron in the neighborhood

  9. Yona Yahav secured a giant wheel at the anchorage
Yona Yahav promised Disneyland in Haifa Bay.
Yona Yahav secured the largest cinema in the world next to the stadium
Yona Yahav promised 3000 hotel rooms in Haifa
Yona Yahav promised a Central Park with a unique Chinese design in the Valley of the Heroes
Yona Yahav later secured the largest adventure park in the country at Wadi HaGivoriv
Yona Yahav promised that a city of film and production studios would be established in Haifa
Yona Yahav promised that the Ministry of the Interior building in Gan HaZikron will become a music production center for youth
Yona Yahav promised a bicycle path between Haifa and Atlit
Yona Yahav promised that a leading university from China would invest in the port campus
Yona Yahav promised that the Life Sciences Park would be built by 2010 in front of Matam
Yona Yahav promised that a new fire station will be built for the Carmel Ridge
Yona Yahav promised the restoration of an international museum in Ma'gana with the financing of an anonymous donor
When will we learn that he only promises?
Why did we fall into the trap with him a fourth time?

    • Yahav is the least bad alternative.
I chained his note (and in more ways than one) only because I could not let Derai, Gafni and Goldknoff take over our house with the help of Etzioni.

    • Yona Yahav promised, and promised, why are you confusing your mind, Yona Yahav promised you, so make an appointment with him, and tell him, your promise was like this and like that, and in the future, that you want to elect someone to the city, or to the Knesset, choose a person you believe in, and don't regret it,

    • This bad mayor Barak Avital did not promise me - he promised the city, he lied in the newspapers, in articles on his behalf, in false election propaganda, in fabricated simulations that were posted everywhere.
Disgraceful, shameful, contempt and a terrible distortion that gave him a fourth term after the destruction he caused 15 years.
As the senile Biden is told to retire, Lihav also needs to say enough is enough. retire You have destroyed enough.
