Bracha Sela returned to Haifa Municipality on a mission: "I retired and came back, I still have a lot to give" ◄ Watch

(haipo) - Bracha Sela, who retired after 46 years of working in the Haifa municipality, and was the first woman to serve as city secretary, returns in a new role. In a special interview for Hai Fa-TV, she tells about her many years in the municipality, about the various positions and her love for the city of Haifa.

Bracha Sela is a Haifaite by heart and birth, as she defines herself, married and a mother of three children, two sons and a daughter. She recently returned to her position as senior assistant to the CEO and in charge of council matters, international relations and external and internal relations in the municipality of Haifa, after she had already retired. She returned to her position after the mayor, Yona Yahav, asked her to return to work alongside him this term as well, upon his return to office Mayor of Haifa in the last elections.

Sela, who for the past three years has enjoyed her retirement, volunteered, traveled and spent time with her family, responded to Yahav's request and returned on a mission.

Sela started her career in the municipality, in the department for neighborhoods and districts when Yosef Almogi was the mayor. Over the years, she climbed the ranks in various positions, until she reached the position of city secretary. At the end of Almogi's term, Yeruham Tzizel took office for a short period, and later Aryeh Goral was elected. During this period she assisted in the work of the bureau and was later promoted to the position of assistant to the mayor for monitoring issues and projects.

After that she was appointed to the position of assistant mayor and head of the bureau, a position she held for about 10 years and was the first woman to hold this position. After the end of Gural's term and the entry of Amram Metzna, she held the position of deputy secretary of the mayor alongside the secretary Yossi Gluzman. When Gluzman finished his term, he pulled out of a tender and Tsna asked her to run for the position of city secretary and she won. A position she held for 24 years until her retirement in 2021.

Sela worked over the years with six mayors of Haifa: Yosef Almogi, Yeruham Tzizel, Aryeh Gural, Amram Metzna, Einat Kalish Rotem and of course Yona Yahav, and although she had already retired, she returned to the municipality upon his return to the position of mayor.

"A woman can find any role"

Regarding the status of women and the changes that have taken place in recent years, Sela says that in the beginning women served more in secretarial positions, and that she is happy that over the years, more women began to serve as heads of departments and divisions and now also as heads of directors. "My team is also mainly made up of women," she notes and adds: "I encourage women to compete for tenders, a woman can perform any role, she can learn any profession, if she has the desire."
