The municipality of Kiryat Bialik expressed its appreciation to the city's volunteers at the "Dear City" ceremony traditionally held on Jerusalem Day. The decoration was awarded to individuals who made a significant contribution and influenced the city in the fields of education, culture, public activity and volunteering.
At this ceremony, the mayor, Eli Dukorski, together with the members of the committee that selected the winners, awarded the honorable title to six residents of the city who stood out in particular in their contribution to the community: Nurit Ben Moshe, David Bruchal, Yoav Bar, Shmuel Grossman, Eliyahu Amar and Frida Sorsky.

The awarding of the Beloved of the City is an important tradition in Kiryat Bialik, which seeks to honor the contribution of outstanding residents in the community. Dear friends of the city, none of you did your years of volunteering for the sake of receiving the award but for the act itself. This year, 23 nominations were submitted to the award committee. The choice was difficult, but at the end of the discussion the decision was made unanimously and you were chosen. Many, many made a soldier in the field of volunteering and you surpassed them all. We, the residents of Kiryat Bialik, are grateful for your work which is an inspiration for all of us. You are an example of giving, kindness and devotion. Thanks to you, the Kiryat Bialik community is becoming a better and more cohesive place.
Dukorski expressed hope for the return of Bialik resident Matan Angrest, who was kidnapped in Gaza: "We all hope for the safe return of Matan and the other abductees and pray for the safety of the soldiers and the wounded, that they all return safely."
The ceremony took place in a festive atmosphere, with the participation of family members, friends and many community activists. At the ceremony, representative bands of the city "Tzeiri Bialik" and "Shavim Bakol" performed.

Darling of the city - Nurit Ben Moshe
Nurit was born and raised in Haifa, she is married to David Ben Moshe, the couple has 6 grandchildren and a great-grandson. She studied teaching and did so for about 6 years. In all her occupations she always included handicrafts. Nurit worked for about 20 years as a secretary at Raphael. Already during her work period, she joined the Milbat group, which was designed to create customized aids for the disabled.
In 2017, she came to give lectures at the Good Life Club, which operates once a week, then joined the leading team and is the content coordinator at the club, invites lecturers, and lectures herself. Norit is a volunteer lecturer at the Holocaust Survivors Club, Afek Academy and the Good Life Club.
She lectures on a variety of topics: Ladino culture, Maimonides, music and art, global warming, consumerism, and has recently emphasized technology, digital communication, and artificial intelligence. Darling of the city - David Baruchal
David immigrated to Israel with his parents from the city of Fes in Morocco and the family lived in the Ein Kerem neighborhood in Jerusalem, which was abandoned by the Arabs. After a period they moved their place of residence to the Carmel Castle, to an abandoned house. David grew up in this neighborhood until the 8th grade and studied in a national religious framework. From there they moved to Haifa and David continued his studies at a vocational high school in Kiryat Haim.
At the age of 16, he joined the rally scout movement in Haifa. After his military service, he began working in several workplaces, until he settled in Israel Chemicals, where he served as the manager of maintenance and safety support systems. David studied at a regional college as a safety officer in the construction and industry sector as well as in execution and collection. David has been married to Ethi for 54 years and the couple has 2 children and seven grandchildren. He started his years of volunteering in Kiryat Bialik at the court in Kiryat.
Then he volunteered to execute Kiryat Bialik. In addition, he has been volunteering at the National Health Fund for about 10 years, where he was awarded the outstanding volunteer badge. David manages the SHIL Citizen Counseling Service Station in Kiryat Bialik. For the past 15 years, he has managed a team of 10 volunteers and one female law student.
A large part of the volunteering is also done from home, organizing lectures, raising toasts on holiday evenings, giving gifts to volunteers and sometimes even trips.
The beloved of the city - Yoav Barel
Yoav, born in Kiryat Bialik, is the only son and grandson of the founding generation of Kiryat Bialik. The house that his grandfather built on KKL Street is among the first ten houses built in Kriya and his mother still lives there today. Yoav grew up and was educated in the education system in Kriya, and received his academic education at the Technion. He holds a degree in industrial engineering and management and information systems. He is married to Orit and has two daughters, Nega and Hadar. .
Upon his retirement, he decided to engage in volunteering, promoting education and the heritage of the Kirya. Yoav volunteers at Kadima and Ort Dafna schools, he supports the school's living corner, and helps students who have difficulty with math. He participated in the intergenerational connection project, and in his meetings with the students he told them the story of his grandfather and the story of Kiryat Bialik from the beginning of her career.
Continuing the work of his father, who worked to establish the museum in Beit Katz, Yoav is responsible for the museum's computer system, and supports the training team in operating the computer and projection equipment, as well as updating the archive program with new details donated to the museum. He is active in the emergency volunteer group.
Yoav is a board member and secretary of the Kiryat Bialik Mutual Association, which deals with the preservation and development of important sites in the city, helping the community, donations to needy students, and more. Yoav is also a member of the Veteran Leadership Forum, which deals with adapting the public space to the needs of senior citizens, for their well-being and participation in community activities.
Dear city - Shmuel Grossman
Shmuel was born in 1945 in Kyrgyzstan in the Soviet Union. His parents worked hard labor and realized that they had to flee. And together with a grandmother and a tiny baby, they stole borders and arrived at Kassel in Germany, where they stayed in a displaced persons camp for about three years, and in 1949 they came to Israel on a Commemorative ship. and were transferred to the Pardes Hana crossing, and later moved to Haifa.
Shmuel grew up in Haifa in the lower city, in the 6th grade he joined the working and learning youth movement and already within this framework he began his volunteer activities, during the holidays he went out every year to volunteer to help in kibbutzim, building beds in shelters in Beit Shean, digging in Masada and more. From a young age he started working at "Penicia" in the electrical and equipment department and in the evenings he studied at the vocational school in Samat where he graduated with a master electrician certificate. Shmuel is married to Samdar and they have three children and seven grandchildren.
For years he was a partner in the establishment of dozens of factories in Israel and around the world. When he arrived in Kiryat Bialik with his wife, they were among the founders of the Amit Zebulon branch of Bnei Brit. As part of this, he began volunteering in the Civil Guard, and is a member of Kiryat Bialik's emergency squad. Shmuel volunteered at the "Gil Am" residence with delinquent youth. and in the tower of light. Today he volunteers at the Zuko Otzma Caterpillar vocational school. and in the Ort Dafna division with communicative children.
Shmuel is the coordinator of a traveling community of Kiryat Bialik retirees. Also volunteers at the Kiryat Bialik Museum. And in this war he even volunteered at Moshav Mivathim, picking cherry tomatoes.
Dearest of the city - Eliyahu Amar
Eliyahu Amar immigrated to Israel, with his family, from Casablanca, Morocco, when he was a 14-year-old boy. The family arrived straight to their settlement in Tzur Shalom, where they lived until 1985. Even then he realized that he had to help provide for the family, so he worked in the morning and studied in the evening. Eli has been married to Shulamit for 47 years and they have six children and grandchildren. When he started a family, he did everything so that the children and his wife could learn and acquire an education. Indeed, they all have advanced academic degrees.
Eliyahu has been active for about 50 years in the "Ahavat Shalom" synagogue. Eli serves as a listening ear to near and far in religious and personal matters. Many people trust him and his opinion and he is seen in their eyes as an honest and innocent person. The thing that characterizes him most of all is giving in secret. He is well versed in the community, knows exactly who needs help and who doesn't, he accompanies families in grief and joy out of infinite care and devotion. Together with his family, he accompanied many converts, who entered Judaism on his recommendation.
The darling of the city - Frida Sorsky
Frida Sorsky arrived in Kiryat Bialik in 1970, with her marriage to the late Eliyahu Sorsky, the son of the Kirya. Together they built their home in the city, and gave birth to four sons, who grew up and were educated there. Since her arrival in Kiryat Bialik, over fifty years ago, Frida has not stopped her activities for the good of many The city and the community.
For many years, during which the boys attended the schools in the city, Frieda, together with Eli, took an active part in the parents' committees, one of the most prominent enterprises that Frieda led, while she was active in the parents' committees, was the organization of a large bazaar, all the proceeds of which were used to purchase equipment for the schools, and for the welfare of the students and teachers.
Frida took an active part in the association for the fallen, in this framework she made sure that a representative from the unit would stand next to the grave of every soldier from the unit on Memorial Day and lay a bouquet of flowers on the grave. In addition, the association made sure to hold fun days and Bar Mitzvah celebrations for the children of the fallen.
Since the death of Eli, an IDF veteran, about 14 years ago, Frida has been engaged in organizing a monthly activity for IDF widows in Kiryat Bialik. In this framework, she organizes valuable and meaningful meetings and lectures for her friends, widows of the IDF. For the past fifteen years, Frida has been volunteering every week in the pre-surgery clinic, and in recovery from surgeries, at the Rambam Hospital.
In addition to all of these since Operation "Tzuk Eitan" and even more so since last October, Frida has been helping the farmers of the south and the north a lot, she invests a lot in creating contact between farmers and consumers, and opens her house and yard to market and sell their produce.
