The Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Health warn that today (Saturday 11.05.24) high to very high air pollution prevails in all regions of the country - due to high concentrations of respirable particles; A gradual improvement in air quality is predicted for the night.
Dust transport from North Africa
The high air pollution is the result of dust being transported from North Africa to our region. A significant haze front was observed in the NASA satellite image. An improvement in air quality is predicted during the night hours after the haze front passes over our area.
In light of this, the Ministry of Environmental Protection in consultation with the Ministry of Health recommends that sensitive populations - including heart patients, lung patients, the elderly, children and pregnant women - avoid vigorous physical activity outside. For the general population it is recommended to reduce strenuous physical activity outside.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection will continue to update the public as needed according to the forecast data and the values measured at the monitoring stations throughout the country.
