Herzl envisioned the cement factory in 1902 in his book Altneuland. 20 years later, the vision became a reality. As part of "Jane's Walks", Rafi Breyer led us through the tunnel of time and told the story of the factory, a factory that belonged to the neighborhood that grew into the city of Nesher.
3000 dunams purchased by Yehoshua Hankin
Limestone from the Carmel, heavy clay soil from the Zebulon Valley and water from the Kishon plus iron powder and lime create cement, the main raw material for the building industry. 3000 dunams purchased by Yehoshua Hankin from the Lebanese Khoury family with knowledge brought by the engineers from Hungary and capital raised from Jewish benefactors in Europe enabled the establishment of the factory and a workers' neighborhood grew up next to it.
The residents lived close to the neighborhood
Not only the workers lived close to the neighborhood, also the managers and engineers and the difference is evident in the houses, there was also a school for the children of the workers and a cultural center. The location of the factory in a hostile environment - Bald e-Sheikh (Tel Hanan) and Hawasa (Ben-Dor) on the one hand and Yajur on the other did not allow day trips from Haifa or other places and the families of the workers lived near the factory.
The change the office went through
The factory no longer produces and is used as offices for rent and areas for storage, the school became part of the science park and houses a chemical factory and the entire area belongs to the Clal company that wants to turn the place into a residential neighborhood. In the west of the neighborhood is the Muslim cemetery where Az-Din is buried on Qasim and across the road, in front of the municipal stadium is the Mandatory Post Office building partially buried (and most of its glory) under the road. The tour achieved its goal. Jane's walks are designed to enable familiarization with the urban environment in which we live, its complexity and the struggles for conservation, for the protection of flora and fauna and knowledge of the distant and recent history.
Avi Mandelovich Natan from Kiryat Tivon built the bridge over the road at the Nesher factory.
Sorry for the question, is Nesher a city?
Since 1995 Nesher is a city
Previously a local council consisting of three neighborhoods: Nesher, Tel Hanan and Ein Dor
The population of Nesher today is about 25 thousand residents
I read the article about it.
A small mistake - possibly unintentional - in the title of the top image:
...built in the Art Deco style...
The correct term is art deco (decoration) or art nouveau (new art).

My late father worked in Nesher. He started working since its establishment. He worked there for many years. A factory with good profits. It's a real shame that it closed. We can point out to the glory of the State of Israel that since the establishment of the state we have built many. The factory was a great success. It's a shame that it closed.
The product made in Nesher is cement and not cement. Cement is a bonding agent. Cement and water is cement. Plaster with water is also cement. Cement is simply glue. in the case of cement. This is the glue that connects the aggregates (gravel and sand) and makes the concrete.
My late father worked at the "Nesher" factory in the 50s to the 70s. My aunt, my mother's sister, lived by the factory and I spent my summer vacations there. At the age of 13, I worked during the holidays at the factory locksmith as a jesta for the children of the workers.
This is an industrial enterprise
