Every year on Memorial Day for the Holocaust and Heroism, I usually visit the memorial to the Jewish warrior in Haifa and the nearby Garden of the Hasidim of the Nations of the World, participate in the memorial ceremonies and observe the stone tablets reading the moving rescue stories.

A garden that commemorates the followers of the nations of the world
About two years ago I told here about the initiative of Ronnie Grossman Haifa about two decades ago to establish a garden that would commemorate the followers of the nations of the world who immigrated to Israel and chose to settle in Haifa, including the saviors of his parents. The idea was approved by the Municipality of Haifa headed by Yona Yahav (in the previous term) and as a result, a spacious and beautiful garden was established and inaugurated in 2008 commemorating the Righteous Among the Nations and next to it an amusement park which was not without reason named 'The Children of Eternity Garden'.
In an article from 2022, I told about an exciting meeting with Roni and about a creative activity held by the school students in preparation for the ceremony. This article is attached here, please read it.
This morning, Holocaust Remembrance Day 2024, I arrived as usual at Gan Alon - the Garden of the Hasidim of the World Nations. Some cute children and their teacher from the nearby elementary school in Ramat Alon came excitedly in white shirts and a memorial wreath and held a modest ceremony there. I was sorry to say that this year, apart from a handful of parents and neighbors, no other crowd came.
From there I approached the monument to the Jewish warrior, which is a short walk away. Here I met a group of the Israel Police Retired Club from the northern region who came for a sightseeing day in Haifa under the guidance of Yoel Sade, a day devoted entirely to the subject of the Holocaust.

The members of the group, wearing a white shirt, held a memorial ceremony on the spot and listened to Yoel's fascinating explanations.

The monument, designed by the artist Gershon Knispel, was erected at the initiative of Dr. Yaakov Champagner, chairman of the Nazi War Disabled Organization. Representatives of the Allies participated in the inauguration of the monument to mark the 50th anniversary of the victory over Germany, including General Petrenko who entered at the head of the Soviet forces and liberated Auschwitz.

The ceremony ended with a standing ovation and then the group visited the Hasidim Umot Olam Garden, where its members listened to the guide's moving rescue stories of some of the immortals in the well-kept garden.

Here I parted ways with the group, which went to the Carmelite monastery in Stella Maris for an explanation and discussion regarding the church's attitude to the murder of the Jews. From there to the auditorium for a lecture entitled "Warsaw - the real story".

Kudos to the Israel Police Retired Club and to Yoel, a tour guide specializing in heritage tours and Jewish connection, for leading a valuable and important day on the subject of the Holocaust.
Indeed, my father, Dr. Jacob Champagner, initiated and erected the monument after, for years, when lecturing on Holocaust Day, he was asked why Jews went like sheep to the slaughter. The monument was erected near the site of an amusement park so that children playing in the park would be intrigued and learn
thank you for your response.
In addition to the memorial plaque, the extension where the monument is placed is named after your father.
A fitting commemoration.
On the eve of Holocaust Day, Hadar "Bedoui" (that's what he called himself) walked around and shouted on Herzl Street, "All of you go back to Russia. You bastards.. He knocked on the windows of buses on the Matron route, threatened several women with his fists in the air.
He was not far from committing a pogrom. There is no police. No personal security. There is no sense of home and protection.
It saddens me to think about the pogroms that we will go through because of the loss of national consciousness and defense against the enemy who pretend to paint it as "coexistence" while it educates incessant incitement against the state and against Jews.
And the results of the similar brainwashing with the same false content on which another generation of such brainwashed people grows from hatred - we see all over the world.
Thanks to Yael Horowitz for an interesting article and for such an accurate and scholarly review.

dear age,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind words.
Who like you knows how much I love my work, happy that the result is visible.
Have a good day!
We need to start a new tradition in Haifa and make a Holocaust memorial procession from the Holocaust Research Institute in the Rambam Synagogue complex through the Garden of Remembrance for the Mercy of Nations in Ramat Alon to the memorial in Zelig Garden, the horse garden in Ramat Remez. Who is picking up the glove?!
Hi Hagit,
In the past, on the day of the victory over Nazi Germany, a march was held on part of the route you mentioned, but in view of the circumstances, it no longer takes place.
