(Live here) – Theater - "Swing" is a musical with pieces of insight, entertainment and singing from the "Ritz" club - a show that provides the audience with moments of sanity and hope.
A light jazz piece, with a shaking and slightly bouncy rhythm
The term "swing" refers to a subgenre of jazz music, which developed in the 20s of the last century. The swing is characterized by rhythmicity and unique movement and sometimes lightness with adaptation to dance. The name swing comes from the feature that this piece of music sounds light, even with a shaking and slightly bouncy rhythm.
Many dignitaries attended the event
On the evening of Thursday of the week, 4.4.24, the presentation of the wonderful musical "Swing" took place, which includes pieces of insight, entertainment and singing from the "Ritz" club, and these provide moments of sanity on the one hand and hope for a better future on the other.
A symbolic chair, representing the chair reserved for the abducted women and men and the kidnapped prisoners of war, who have not yet been released - was placed and presented to the audience of the theater hall which was full to the brim.
In the Haifa theater hall, among industry executives, businessmen and other dignitaries - the mayor Mr. Yona Yahav and his wife, Or Shaf, CEO of the Haifa Economic Society, Paz Glickman who was the director of Yona Yahav's election headquarters and is now his personal assistant, Baraka Sela, the secretary of the municipality, were also present , Attorney Inbal Beit Halami-Rivan City Council Member, Council Member Zahabit Ben David, Council Member Netta Bohbot and Council Member Yael Shenar as well as many other good ones.
A musical play by and directed by Tzvia Huberman
The musical "Swing" is the brainchild of the Israeli playwright and director Zvia Huberman. In the past, Tzvia wrote and directed dozens of plays, mainly for children and youth, as well as many television programs. In addition to this, Huberman founded the theater department at the School of Arts in Tel Aviv, and later, over the course of many years, even managed it. It can be added and noted that she was also the artistic director of the "Orna Forat Theater for Children and Youth" and of the Haifa International Festival for Children's Plays. Hence - with such a fine resume, it should not be surprising - her ability and precise tailoring in the creation of the excellent musical "Swing".
"Piltz" - the mythical cafe
Veterans of the city of Tel Aviv as well as lovers of history - remember the building of the Filtz Cafe which was located on Yarakon Street and had a wide and rounded balcony that faced the sea. Above the cafe was a white, Bauhaus-style, three-story apartment building.
The original cafe was opened at the end of the events of 1936-1939 and was used as a fancy cafe where there was an orchestra of musicians, around which waiters wearing tailcoats flaunted and ran around. Years later, with the outbreak of World War II, the cafe became an officer's club of the British Army as well as officers of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States and even the Polish Anders army.
"Just" ordinary soldiers will not enter
At that time, there was a gatekeeper standing at the entrance to the Filtz cafe who made sure that "just" ordinary soldiers did not enter. Along with these officers, the people of Tel Aviv also spent time there, some of whom were conscripts of the Jewish Brigade and even Etzal and Lehi people. It should be noted that the place was also a meeting place for a significant number of agents of the Haaretz-Israel Bureau.
Note: The Haifa Theater musical is called "Swing" and the club mentioned in it is "Ritz"... and any memory of the mythical Tel Aviv coffee shop "Piltz" is only a mental possibility and a fertile imagination on the part of the audience.
The plot - the story of a stormy period
"Swing" brings to the stage the years before the establishment of the state, as well as the years of the Second World War, in which the world chaos affected the souls of those living in Palestine-AI. Years in which the struggle against the British took place on the one hand, and on the other hand, a struggle against the Palmach and the underground.
At the same time, in this chaos - there are women trying to make a living from entertainment - while the world around them is burning. In this club they dance and sing the best hits from the movies of that time.
Appreciation to all involved in the craft
The thanks and appreciation for what is happening on stage go to: first and foremost for the play and direction: Tzvia Huberman, for the musical direction: Amir Lekner, choreography: Michal Shai, set design: Talia Ottolenghi for the unusually invested costume design: Shira Weiss, as well as for the entire wonderful cast which includes: May Feingold, Daniel Stiopin, Dana Meinert, Avishai Meridor, Tom Graziani, Ella Rosenzweig, Gabriel Demidov, Shimon Khaba, Ofri Salomon, Alona Tanenbaum and Amit Capon (who "almost" "stole the show").
It should also be noted that a real celebration takes place on stage accompanied by a live orchestra including: piano, double bass, drums, saxophone, clarinet and even a trumpet.
A recommended musical - in terms of getting Broadway without getting on a plane
Attorney Inbal Beit Halami-Rivan, a member of the city council, summed up her impression well: "I arrived not knowing what to expect and left with an experience for all the senses.
This is a Zionist musical in the dictionary definition of the genre. Although there are no complex or complicated plots here (appropriate for the field), it has a lot of color, a crazy investment in costumes and a genius casting of actors under the direction of Mae Feingold which is so precise, that sometimes it was hard for me to digest that I was listening to live music.
This is a highly recommended show For anyone who wants to get Broadway without getting on a plane."
Indeed, the wonderful musical "Swing", with entertainment segments from the "Ritz" club, provides moments of sanity on the one hand and hope on the other. Otsu Rotsu, an elite cultural pleasure.
Change of government in the Swing municipality in the theater.
There were many boring sections, especially in the first half hour. afterwards …. Pure pleasure!
