The thread never ceases to surprise. On Saturday 30.3.24 the front end of the current swarm arrived which this time mostly included jellyfish of mixed sizes - from twenty cm to ninety cm.
This morning, Sunday 31.3.24, the huge swarm arrived in Haifa Bay, which was flooded with jellyfish, some of which sank into the sand due to the runoff created by the waves.
Bathers and surfers complained of painful burns. For all those engaged in water sports such as surfing, swimming, SUP who have not yet come across "the comfort of the arms" of the wandering wireworm - beware.
As mentioned, there are several variations of the cord, where the venom of the large cords that is injected into the victim's body is greater. Along with it, the pain also increases.
The twine bites
Today I received a call from a man who said that his daughter who is involved in water sports was bitten by a wandering wireworm.
The injury does not look good at all. According to her: "The injury hurt much more than the jellyfish stings in the summer." A claim I completely agree with.
The sensation depends on the victim's sensitivity
Don't make the mistake of calling the injury of the cord a burn, because the feeling can be both a sting and a burn, or even similar to an electric shock.
What can be done to avoid harming them?
To avoid harming them, you must wait until the swarm has passed and only then enter the sea, or enter when the water is clear so that you can see the jellyfish themselves (today, for example, you could not see them in the bay because the water was very cloudy).
Referral to a medical professional depends on the severity of the injury and the discretion of the victim. Since in my work I have been injured many times by the cords - I can share my recommendation: I do not go out of the sea into the hot sun because the burn cells are sensitive to heat and therefore going out into the heat will activate cells that have not yet been activated.
Therefore, I gently rub the injury with sand and only then get out of the sea.
Let's address the rumors
There are rumors about various "patents", among which the location of the impact has changed. There may be something in this... but in the case of a serious injury it probably won't help.
The tingling lasts for a few hours to a few days... in the meantime let's keep an eye open.
Good to know and be updated with such important information! All thanks to you Muti!
I completely agree from experience that this winter is unlike any other summer to the extent that there were cases of just entering the sea without directly harming the jellyfish I had damages from knowing the same situation in the summer
Hello Eyal
It is impossible to catch them in nets considering that a 40 cm jellyfish weighs 8 kg.
Multiply by a few thousand...the ship will capsize.
Hello Hanit.
This has already been tried and it is an unprofitable failure
Hello David.
This is the feeling that most describe.
I was in Haifa swimming and a metre-long jellyfish stung me next to it was the painful electric shock in my life trauma from the sea
thin out the wild boars
Thin out the jackals with the night concert
Thin out the stinging jellyfish in the sea
And dilute from here the delusional thinning opponents who produce a jungle
Do yourself a favor and go live in Petah Tikva and dilute your presence in the area
You should start thinning your family.
According to your blurb, you need to learn what loss feels like.
Good morning to me.
Today it is impossible to destroy them.
We are a traditionalist. Maybe in other places we could open non-kosher restaurants, but not here...and it wouldn't dilute them either
Thinning is not done for profit. Thinning costs money but it is an investment from which you get the value of a safer, more touristic, and managed environment. Nature got out of balance a long time ago and therefore it is impossible to say "leave nature to manage itself". Man has to manage the natural resources whether it is in the sea, on land and in the air. Whether it is attempts to return the eagles and goats to Israel, or whether it is the thinning of jellyfish and wild boars that reproduce at an unreasonable rate or have reached monstrous sizes or invasive species.
There is no turning back and man must intervene and the thinning must be carried out and be ready to carry it out in the coming years due to changes in forests and cultural changes invasive species and more and more.
Good morning Aryeh... it was in Haifa
to send them to China and Lifo where they will make delicacies out of them
Where exactly was it?
Because in Kiryat Haim the sea was clear and without lines
In Kiryat Yam, last week my daughter was bitten in a surfing lesson with some friends
It's clear that Klish is to blame for the jellyfish attack. Now let's hope that Yona Yahav will save us from them.
Maybe thin them out too. In general, the most unnecessary animal is the residents of Haifa, thin them out too.
To me this is exactly what needs to be done. Bring big fishing boats with big nets and catch tons of jellyfish every day.
Well done my friend Motty Mendelssohn
Good night
