(haipo) - On Thursday, 04/04, at 20:00, a derby will be held between two Haifa teams in the Ultimate Frisbee category. The game will be held on the field at the Reali Beit Biram school • The public is invited • Admission is free.
What makes Ultimate Frisbee unique is that both men and women play on the same team and there is no referee, but the players themselves judge during the game. The youngest player to be on the field will be 14 years old and the oldest 49 years old.
Michael Rabinovitch, 36, a resident of Haifa, is a coach and Ultimate Frisbee player:
"I got to know the industry at the age of 32. I realized that the years in which I can be an active player are few, so within 3 years I started coaching children's and adult teams. On Thursday there will be a match between two teams in Ultimate Frisbee.
Ultimate frisbee is a unique sport that combines elements from sports such as American football, basketball, handball, soccer and more, which is played with a frisbee plate. 7 players play against 7 players, and the goal of each team is to pass with the plate without dropping it, and to catch the Frisbee in the area, called the "endzone", of the other team.
This is the only competitive team sport that combines men and women together on the same field both in the Israeli league and in international competitions. The game is played in 80 countries by about 7 million players. The players are also the judges, and they sometimes have to decide against their team. When there is an offense, it is managed by the players involved."
There are 3 known Frisbee branches in Israel:
Ultimate Frisbee (the team discipline), Disc Golf (an individual competition, the goal of which is to score the Frisbee into a certain device, which looks like a basket in as few attempts as possible) and the third discipline is called Free Style and is similar to juggling a single person with the Frisbee. The branch's ambition is to enter the Olympics.
"There were several leagues in the country," explains Rabinovitch, "at its peak there was a professional league with 12 teams. This year, because of the war, it was reduced to 8 teams (the minimum for the league). The team of Shevrei Nessaf joined the professional league so that it would be possible to hold a league. We are now in the cycle The fifth of the league out of 10 rounds.
The group Hucking Crazy is in fifth place and the group Shbrei Nesef is in seventh place. Both teams train at Reali Beit Biram. It could be this year, that the two Haifa teams will not meet again. Next year, it is possible that the effort fragments will return to the amateur league, so it is possible that the meeting between the two teams is a one-off."
Hucking Crazy against Hapoel Haifa fragments of effort
The two teams that will play on Thursday are Hucking Crazy, which will face the Hapoel Haifa Hapoel Haifa team. The game that will be held on Thursday will be the first Haifa derby, because up until now, Shabrei Sefus was in the amateur league and not the professional one.
About the group Hucking Crazy
Hucking Crazy is an old team, which has existed since the beginning of the development of the industry in Israel, established in 2005. The team has the oldest and most experienced training team in Israel, including training in the various national teams. The word Huck in Ultimate means a long throw towards the goal, a bit like the Hail Mary in American football and the initials are also for Haifa City HC and its shirts are emblazoned with symbols of the city of Haifa, as well as the Israeli flag and the team logo.
About the Hapoel Haifa Hapoel Hapoel Hapoel Haifa group
Fragments of Effort Hapoel Haifa is a team that opened exactly two years ago, that is, in 2022, as the amateur team of Haifa. The name was chosen because most of its original members were older and injured, and the team participated in the amateur league and cup, rather than the professional league. This year we made a connection with the Hapoel Haifa association.
Following the war, teams from the amateur league were also given the opportunity to join the Premier League and we decided to go for it. After 4 games the balance currently stands at 3 losses and XNUMX win.
Rabinovitch: My dream is that Haifa will be the frisbee capital of Israel
"The Haifa community has hundreds of players," Rabinovitch adds, "in the past, many of them would meet on the grass at Sportek (next to the Grand Canyon), but one day they built a concrete dance floor there for people to dance with once or twice a week (even though there is an unused ice skating/hockey rink next door common) because it was the only public field in Haifa that is level and without trees and rocks. This forced the community to look for plots to rent, which is not easy at all because the majority is occupied by soccer.
My dream and that of the leading players in the community is to make Haifa the frisbee capital of Israel. We have both the beaches and surfaces. What we lack is recognition and pitches. Ra'anana currently holds the unofficial title of Israel's frisbee capital because it has both teams in the league, a vibrant community and public parks, which make this game possible."
sounds interesting! I'm coming!
